It’s been nearly 50 years since Mattel’s popular die-cast toy line property, Hot Wheels launched and became the epicenter of car models for many a collector and manfacturer. In turn, it’s been thirteen years since a film adaptation had been in the works at Colombia Pictures and then Warner Bros before gaining progress at Legendary Pictures five years ago. That decision was influenced in large part by the success of director Justin Lin’s Fast Five at the time, and no less to the tune of $621 million dollars. Thus, it’s reasonable that after sifting through names of possible suitors to helm the film that the studio would ultimately go with Lin, and so it is, according to a new report at Variety. Sony Pictures has been working toward a cinematic reboot centered on classic hero character, He-Man for sometime now. Efforts date as far back as 2007 as rumors swarmed the internet and the film’s ownership changed hands to Colombia Pictures via Sony with G.I. Joe: Retaliation helmer Jon M. Chu’s name once circles to direct. Fast forward to 2016 with the official logo already made public from the studio as development still languished for Masters Of The Universe as it is officially titled. The 80’s have been a goldmine for children entertainment. Toys and tv shows ran rampant for merchandising and Tyco was one of the biggest. What I’m specifically talking about is Dino Riders and for those who are old enough to remember, these were really badass toys. There is nothing more symbolic of the 80’s kid toys than it was to add futuristic armor to dinosaurs and give them laser guns. It took awhile for Warner Bros. to get on board with a Wonder Woman movie long after several failed attempts to rebrand the popular female-centric property on television reprising. And rest assured, even that effort a snag recently before recovering with a new director. All in all, it’s understandable that one can be led to wonder if the studio cared at all about lending a female the spotlight in today’s movie and television fandom. Moviefone delivered the first slate of stills this week for the upcoming 2015 release of the live action adaptation for Max Steel, starring Ben Winchell and Anna Villafañe and directed by Stewart Hendler.
