SINNERS opens in theaters this April!
Little was known about the unnamed genre film that Ryan Coogler and his Fruitvale Station, Creed, and Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan were reuniting for as of January. It’s been hype-inducing, even enough that it ensued a bidding war in which Warner Bros. Pictures came out on top by the following month, and now, the official trailer and key art has been revealed for the new thriller, Sinners, which opens in theaters and IMAX on March 7. From Ryan Coogler—director of “Black Panther” and “Creed”—and starring Michael B. Jordan comes a new vision of fear: “Sinners.” Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back. “You keep dancing with the devil, one day he’s gonna follow you home.” Sinners sees Jordan in a dual role here, and […]
Jaalen Best (All American: Homecoming) will star in titular role of new Prime Video series drama, The Greatest, based on the life and times of boxing legend Muhammad Ali. The show was granted unprecedented access to Ali’s estate as it is hailed as the first authorized scripted series about the life of global icon, boxing champion, and humanitarian. According to Amazon’s announcement, “The Greatest intimately explores the incomparable life of Muhammad Ali. The amazing victories and defeats that made Ali a legend, both in and out of the ring, have been well documented and while those landmark events will live in The Greatest, the heartbeat of the story is fueled by all the moments that took place outside of the spotlight. The world remembers an icon, but The Greatest is about a man, a husband, a father, a brother, and a son. Michael B. Jordan’s (the Creed franchise) Outlier Society […]
Rocky franchise producer Irvin Winkler confirmed the development of a fourth installment of the Creed saga with Michael B. Jordan at the helm, according to Deadline’s Destiny Jackson. Winkler made the announcement on Saturday during Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles, telling the audience “We are planning to do Creed IV right now”. He added: “We have a really good story [and] a really good plot. We got a little delayed because of the strikes, but about a year from now we’re going into pre-production.” Jordan shepherded this year’s Creed III as both star and director following the work of past directors Ryan Coogler (Creed, 2015), and Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II, 2018). The film co-starred Jonathan Majors opposite Jordan in a story that saw our protagonist, Adonis, confronted by former childhood friend Damian, who sets out to lay claim to the boxing world. Development updates are yet to be made […]
Deadline‘s Anthony D’Alessandro, Nellie Andreeva, and Peter White are reporting that a more unilateral TV and film campaign is in the works at Amazon following the $100+ million box office success of Creed III. According to the report, a “Creed-Verse” is brewing to create an animated series, as well as a companion live-action series, and a possible project that centers on Amara, the daughter to our protagonist in the third film portrayed by Mila Davis-Kent in her film debut. News of this comes in the wake of concurrent developments of another spin-off from the events of 2018’s Creed sequel announced last summer, briefly igniting controversy regarding the contended rights battle between producer Irwin Winkler, and Sylvester Stallone, star of the Rocky film saga and a mainstay of the franchise whose titular character bowed from the saga in the Stephen Caple Jr.-directed film. Interestingly, details at Deadline also indicate that Amazon […]
The highly anticipated third instalment to the Creed franchise is hitting cinemas this week on 3rd March. I was lucky enough to check out the film at an early press screening thanks to Warner Bros. Pictures UK in glorious IMAX and I was not disappointed. In the opening sequence we are introduced to a young Adonis Creed sneaking out of his home to hang with his older friend Damian. They head over to a shady night club hosting a boxing show where Damian fights inside the ring winning by spectacular fashion. On the journey home we learn of Damian’s aspirations to become Olympic champion and turn pro and eventually become Heavyweight Champion of the World. Unfortunately these dreams come to a staggering halt and his World comes crashing down when a violent altercation derails any sort of a future for him. Cut to modern day and we find ourselves sharing […]
Actor Michael B. Jordan is in full swing this week as his feature debut directing entry on a major franchise now gets an official trailer in Creed III. When a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy, Damian (Jonathan Majors), resurfaces after serving a long sentence in prison, he is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring. Stefano Sollima’s new espionge revenge thriller, Without Remorse, now has an official trailer following a recent poster reveal which you can view at the bottom of this page. The latest incarnation of a Tom Clancy-created staple of literary spy thriller novels now sees Michael B. Jordan in full form, taking on the full weight of the lead role of John Clark with a deeply scarred and tortured, unhinged air and a tactical twist to boot that I think fans will purely take a liking to. The movie comes to Amazon on April 30. In a war-torn region of Syria, an elite team of Navy SEALs led by Sr. Chief John Kelly (Michael B. Jordan) rescues a CIA operative taken hostage by ex-Russian military forces. Three months later, in apparent retaliation for his role in the mission, Kelly’s pregnant wife Pam (Lauren London) is murdered in the U.S. by a squad […]
It was during the weekend when Deadline revealed that actor Michael B. Jordan “considering to direct” the upcoming third installment of the Creed saga. Jordan debuted the character in Creed (2015) for director Ryan Coogler, spinning off the legacy for a key character in the longstanding Rocky franchise with Sylvester Stallone reprising; Stallone retired the character in the 2018 sequel, Creed II directed by Steven Caple Jr., appearing one last time opposite Dolph Lundgren back in the role of Ivan Drago from Rocky IV. An official statement from MGM and Warner Bros. remains pending. Jordan will next appear in Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse, which is currently dated for February 2021 from Paramount Pictures, pending circumstances with the current Covid-19 pandemic. The last four years of development history for the story of Methuselah have finally come to pass with director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Simon Beaufoy now leading the charge this time. The trades have maintained the project, which once saw Tom Cruise starring, has Michael B. Jordan on deck for the title role instead. As of Friday with the duo behind the highly-acclaimed Slumdog Millionaire officially on board, Jordan’s attachment hasn’t changed. What has changed, however, is the vision; A March 2019 Deadline piece described Methuselah as a story that told of “a man who has managed to survive for hundreds of years, without showing the physical signs of age. In that time, he has accumulated vast intellectual knowledge, from multiple languages to the sciences, as well as survival skills.” With Boyle now on board however, a new touch is in the works according to Variety‘s Justin Kroll who says […]
Late Wednesday evening, IGN published the first official look at actor Michael B. Jordan in the new espionage thriller, Without Remorse, opening in theaters September 2020. Stefano Sollima is rejoining with Sicario: Day Of The Soldado scribe Taylor Sheridan, and with a cast that also includes actress Jodie Turner-Smith, and actors Jamie Bell, Luke Mitchell, Jacob Scipio, Cam Gigandet, Jack Kesy and Todd Lasance among others. Comic book creator Dennis Liu’s 2015 release, Raising Dion, finally comes to life with the first official trailer and poster for the new Netflix series. Carol Barbee created and serves as exec producer with Liu, and with co-star Michael B. Jordan for the new nine-episode fantasy drama streaming on October 4. Raising Dion follows the story of a woman named Nicole (Alisha Wainwright), who raises her son Dion (newcomer Ja’Siah Young) after the death of her husband, Mark (Michael B. Jordan). The normal dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest several mysterious, superhero-like abilities. Nicole must now keep her son’s gifts secret with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat (Jason Ritter), and protect Dion from antagonists out to exploit him while figuring out the origin of his abilities. Seith Mann directed the pilot. Peep the trailer above and poster below!
Actor Michael B. Jordan is still poised to take the lead in a revival of classic heist pic, The Thomas Crown Affair. For this, there’s word from Deadline that Marvel movie directors Anthony and Joe Russo may be in the running to helm the project. As Mike Fleming Jr. notes, the news comes just as the two sibs, founders of their AGBO label, inked a deal with MGM and officiated “a multi-film non-exclusive creative partnership to co-develop, co-produce and co-finance a slate of projects” from the MGM library. Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway starred in the title role in the 1968 flick from director Norman Lewison. The film centers on a billionaire businessman/career thief who ensues a romance with a beautiful insurance investigator when his latest job lands him on her radar. Director John McTiernan remade the film with a different ending in 1999 at the time with Pierce Brosnan […]
SOUTHPAW, written by Kurt Sutter of the successful, long-running show Sons of Anarchy, came out in July of 2015. Ryan Coogler’s CREED, co-written with Aaron Covington, released four months later of the same year. Before seeing either of them, I expected to enjoy Creed but like Southpaw better, aesthetically. I have always been a huge fan of the Rocky series, but I was more recently a fan of Sons, so there, admittedly, was bias filled in my assumption that went beyond my reaction to their inaugural trailers. I was wrong, it turned out. Southpaw, though I loved it and still do, was, well, written by a television writer and felt like it. This is not to say it was bad by any measure, but the emotional beats bordered a bit much on the grandiose. And while this is great for a show with the breathing room of a serial, as […]
Trade news sources are confirming a September 18, 2020 release date for Tom Clancy novel adaptation, Without Remorse. The news arrived on Monday on the same day the film’s lead actor Michael B. Jordan, landed a lucrative first-look TV deal with Amazon Studios. Set during the Vietnam War, Without Remorse centers its focus on John Kelly, a former NAVY Seal whose latest mission for the CIA lands him the new identity. The production marks a reunion for writer Taylor Sheridan and director Stefano Sollima who last worked together on the riveting crime sequel, Sicario 2: Day Of The Soldado. The film is also one of two in which Jordan will claim the role following previous screen performances by Willem Dafoe and Liev Schreiber. Jordan is also producing next to Akiva Goldsman.
In one of the most brilliant and best moves made in cinema, Paramount is now segueing to prolific screenwriter Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, Hell Or High Water) pen the script for Without Remorse, first on the block for the studio’s two developing Tom Clancy adaptations; the other being Rainbow Six. Creed and Creed 2 star Michael B. Jordan is tapped to star in the film taking the mantle as John Clark, a fixture in seventeen of the late Clancy’s twenty-five “Jack Ryan” novels. Akiva Goldsman is spearheading as the main producer. Per the book description, Clark is the codename adapted by ex-Navy SEAL John Kelly, widowed months earlier from the death of his pregnant wife, now toggling between enemies at home and abroad facing a deadly rescue mission overseas, and avenging the death of a runaway drug mule at the hands of traffickers. The move marks a reunion for Sherdian who […]
Director Stefano Sollima (Gomorrah) sought last year to continue the amazing progress left by Denis Villenueve with Sicario 2: Day Of The Soldado, and he did so in spades. The dark, chilling world of danger and espionage runs provenly high in his storytelling skillset – one that will now apply to his next foray in Paramount’s Without Remorse, based on the seventh book in the late Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series. As Variety noted Wednesday night, Michael B. Jordan, fresh off of Creed 2 is moving forward to produce AND star in the film claiming the role of John Kelly – originally iterated in the books as a former Navy Seal and Vietnam vet and often seen as a secondary character aiding Ryan on missions – pitted between a mission of vengeance, and a life-or-death rescue operation ordered by the Pentagon. In the midst of all this, Kelly is given […]
A director is still in search for the upcoming Frank Baldwin adaptation of THE SILVER BEAR, the first of Derek Haas’ ‘Assassin Trilogy’.
In the wake of one of the most applauded franchises and its rousing 2016 spin-off, it wasn’t enough for there to be just a Creed 2 in this day and age. Such a franchise dare not forget the explosive chapter that unfolded 33 years ago when Rocky IV sought to serve as the page-turning social commentary relevant for its time. It also offset a key precursor in inaugrating the events that preset Ryan Coogler’s spin-off to its own acclaim with actor Michael B. Jordan succeeding the narrative for a new generation of moviegoers. That succession continues with Stephen Caple Jr. at the helm for a new round of compelling drama dedicating to rip open new wounds by way of old scars… Life has become a balancing act for Adonis Creed. Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing […]
