EXCLUSIVE: The last two years saw the quiet development of Monster Hunter from Resident Evil franchise duo Paul W.S. Anderson and producing partner Jeremy Bolt. The adaptation of the hit 2004 video game IP is now finally taking shape with word that actor and martial artist Tony Jaa will play The Hunter, joining the casting line-up announced earlier this evening at The Hollywood Reporter. For every Monster, there is a Hero. An ordinary man in a dead end job discovers that he is actually the descendant of an ancient hero. He must travel to a mystical world to train to become a Monster Hunter, before the mythical creatures from that world destroy ours. As The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit noted on Tuesday evening, actor and recording artist T.I. Harris is joining the cast as Link with famed Hellboy persona Ron Perlman playing Admiral, leader of the Hunters’ crew. The film […]

This week however, we have several new character posters in our wake featuring Jovovich along with Darren Wang, Sandrine Pinna, Timmy Xu and Liu Meitong. Check them out below! Alan Yuen’s new spy comedy, THE ROOKIES, stars Milla Jovovich, Darren Wang, Sandrine Pinna, Timmy Xu and Liu Meitong!
Lionsgate released the official trailer on Monday for dystopian sci-fi, Future World. Interestingly, the central male protaganist played by Jeffrey Wahlberg gets no name-mention while the trailer moreso sells on its more prolific casting roster with James Franco (The Disaster Artist) on both sides of the lens – which might be a mistake considering how you choose to view any of the controversy he’s been the crux of as of late. Inside a desert oasis, a queen (Lucy Liu) lays dying as her son Prince (Jeffrey Wahlberg) travels across barren waste lands to find a near-mythical medicine to save her life. After evading violent raiders on motorbikes led by the Warlord (James Franco) and his enforcer (Cliff “Method Man” Smith), Prince meets Ash (Suki Waterhouse), the Warlord’s robot sex companion-assassin who’s in search of her own soul. As Prince is captured by the Druglord (Milla Jovovich), the Warlord’s forces roar […]
The lists of actresses that we don’t know of serving as candidates for upcoming sci-fi thriller, Hummingbird, probably stretches beyond previously reported mentions of Zoe Saldana and Olivia Munn. At any rate, we now have word out of Berlin that noted Resident Evil franchise star, actress Milla Jovovich will lead the film instead with cameras aiming to start rolling this summer. Swedish duo Marcus Kryler and Fredrik Akerström are attached to direct the project from a Black List script by John McClain, now with a vision and tone keen on echoing thrillers like the Bourne franchise and Luc Besson’s 2014 blockbuster, Lucy. .Hummingbird will center on a female black-ops assassin whose latest mark forces her to rethink her identity and her purpose. The film was announced in October of 2016 and has since been revised by Jovovich’s husband and noted Resident Evil franchise helmer Paul W.S. Anderson. Mark Gao and Gregory Ouanhon, […]
The course is still being plotted for the forthcoming reboot, Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen, as announced back in May. The production has its lead actor in Stranger Things series co-star David Harbour and casting has now confirmed its title villainess in actress Milla Jovovich. Plot details and specifics are not yet explicitly known while comic book origins detail the history of the Blood Queen with her first appearance in “The Wild Hunt”, the December 2008 publication of the Hellboy comic. Aron Coleite is adapting the screenplay from a previous draft by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola for Neil Marshall (Centurion, The Descent) to direct. Jovovich is no stranger to blockbuster sci-fi, action and horror with notable credits like The Fifth Element and Ultraviolet. Jovovich went on to star Constantin Films’s adaptation of Capcom zombie thriller, Resident Evil, totaling six movies which spanned fifteen years […]
I can’t be too bothered with Screen Gems’s Resident Evil movies of the last…what… the last seventeen years? Personally I’ve only seen maybe four of them and as forgettable and copycat they’ve been with some of the action set-pieces I sort of stopped caring, as much as I love Milla Jovovich too. That said, I’m sure the franchise has had plenty going for itself otherwise it wouldn’t have amassed more than $1.2 billion dollars at the global box office. Apparently however, that’s not enough for the studio who now tells Variety that a reboot with ANOTHER SIX MOVIES is in the works as confirmed by Germany-based Constantin Film chairman of the board Martin Moszkowicz while at Cannes. The film franchise takes its cues from the 1996 Capcom video game which currently has 27 installments. Constantin had a hand in producing each of the films featuring Jovovich as nomadic superhuman warrior, […]
Acclaimed director Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element is poised for a limited theatrical 4K re-release for a two-day 20th anniversary screening event commencing this Sunday, May 14 and following Wednesday May 17 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm courtesy of Fathom Events. You can still pre-order your tickets while an official promo has been unveiled in the player at the bottom of the page. From its opening scenes in 1914 Egypt to its towering views of 23rd Century New York City, and its mind-expanding journey to the faraway world of Fhloston Paradise, “The Fifth Element” follows cab driver Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) as he discovers that the fate of the world is contained within the mysterious Leeloo (Milla Jovovich), who literally drops from the sky and into his life. To save humanity, he must protect her from the evil industrialist Zorg (Gary Oldman), who is embroiled in an intergalactic war between the […]
Every now and then I’m a little bit delightfully surprised that this will be the titular final installment of the longstanding Resident Evil film franchise. I’ve still only seen the several of them – I can’t even remember which ones since they all look the damn same, all I know is that this franchise is full of monsters, big guys with big guns, bigger stunts, and scantily clad and badass female characters all led Milla Jovovich who, in my own view, might as well lead another action film franchise. Just no more Resident Evil movies. Pretty please. SYNOPSIS: Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces […]
As promised, following this morning’s international trailer for the latest in the Capcom survival horror saga, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, the official U.S. trailer is now making the rounds. I have to say, this one sells quite nicely, and maybe better than the trailer from earlier. Thank goodness for 80’s American hard rock! SYNOPSIS: Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse. January 27, 2017 is the date for the film’s release from Screen Gems. Watch the new trailer below!
I fail to recount the last fourteen years in which we’ve spent watching Sony and Screen Gems re-envision Capcom’s longstanding popular game franchise, Resident Evil. We have Milla Jovovich, however, who continues to lend us an action heroine at the center of one woman’s journey through a world rife with zombies, and outlaws in various forms against an evil corporation responsible for turning much of mankind into said zombies in the first place. Alas, it looks like more of the same derivative craziness with Paul W.S. Anderson sitting back at the helm for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, and the latest trailer looks nothing short of the usual, promising big setups, more lazer dodging, more menacing Iain Glen, and so on. Moreover, as the new international trailer insists, Alice has, indeed, “played a long game”, and a winning one at that; A billion dollars in on its big screen investments […]
Wanna see actor James Franco play a futuristic drug lord? Well now your chance is coming with the production of his latest indie sci-fi, Future World from Dark Rabbit Productions. Franco and writer Bruce Thierry Cheung are directing from Cheung’s script written with Jeremy Cheung and Jay Davis about a boy and his loyal bodyguard, tasked with a treacherous journey across the dystopia in search of a rarely known cure for his ailing mother, while an evil plot brews from the nefarious Warlord and his beautiful, lethal robot assassin. Milla Jovovich, star of the forthcoming January 2017 release of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, has been cast according to Deadline with recording artist, George Lewis Jr. (a.k.a. Twin Shadow) is reportedly playing the role, Ratcatcher. Further casting details are in the works while AMBI is planning a release currently awaiting announcement.
I haven’t much kept up with the Resident Evil movies apart from having seen four of them so far. The sixth, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, is underway, at least with production currently filming in Cape Town, South Africa with actress Milla Jovovich back with an ensemble cast of familiar faces based on characters from the hit Capcom gaming series. One such character is now being added by way of South Korean actor and singer Lee Joon-Gi, according to Variety. Confirmed by Jovovich‘s latest Instagram post and Sony’s most recent announcement, Lee will reportedly play the role Umbrella Corporation’s Commander Lee, as per the film’s plot that sees our heroine in a last stand against zombies and monsters alike, and the corporation that created them. Working for the last few nights with the incredible 3rd Dan Tae Kwon Do master and actor Joon Gi @actor_jg has been insanely fun and […]
There’s no shortage of action roles for season actors these days, and people like November Man star and former Bond of yesteryear, Pierce Brosnan is an embodiment of this kind of resilience. His latest role in V For Vendetta helmer James McTeigue‘s Survivor shows he’s not afraid to rope down a spiral stairwell or blow shit up, and that’s a problem for our heroine, Resident Evil franchise star Milla Jovovich, as every minute counts in this generic, yet harrowing, explosive tale of intrigue, deceit and blood…well, that’s certainly what the new international trailer gives off. SYNOPSIS: Milla Jovovich stars in ‘Survivor’, a thriller about a State Department employee newly posted to the American embassy in London, where she is charged with stopping terrorists from getting into the U.S. Putting her in the line of fire: targeted for death, framed for crimes she didn’t commit, discredited and on the run. Now […]
