Before any big title fight, there is anticipation in the air; crowds buzzing with excitement, gamblers rapidly placing bets as the odds shift back and forth, and analysts debating the merits and flaws of both combatants. It’s one of the joys of combat sports – the buildup. The hype. It’s a feeling that films don’t quite capture. Sure, there is intense excitement before a new blockbuster debuts but it doesn’t have the same gleeful banter between opposing fans, the heated debate over who will emerge as the winner, and the chest-thumping tribalism of rooting on a favorite fighter.

The crowd at CCXP this year in Brazil got plenty of reason to stay hyped before anyone else with a tease signaling the newest official trailer now out for Michael Dougherty’s Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. The weekend tease was already enough to pull us in and the footage we now have collects for us on that promise tenfold, featuring a grandshowcase of our titular sci-fi monster protag and the line-up of gigantic creatures whose presence have completely flipped the script on mankind’s place in the universe.
A few years in the making, the film marks the latest foray for Legendary and Warner Bros. in an effort toward a cinematic universe that will include the March 10, 2017 release of Kong: Skull Island, and culminate in the release of Godzilla vs. Kong on May 29, 2020. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters opens March 22, 2019.
