This week is a week of celebrating bygone action movie glory if you’re a collector of physical media from the good folks over at MVD Entertainment. More than twenty years since HKL/Medusa Communications advanced the home release efforts of Steve Wang’s own cut of the 1996 film, Drive, the company’s own Rewind Collection shingle are now offering their own spruced up edition of the director’s cut on Blu-Ray. The special features are listed below and if some of them read familiar to you any, chances are you’ve owned a copy of the HKL/Medusa print from 2000, and so there’s a very, VERY good chance that you know your friends and fellow film fans have reasons aplenty to be excited. Drive is a cult classic that pays dear homage to action movies in a multitude of ways, and was a festival darling for a time or two, and the unfortunate part […]
Last year, Vinegar Syndrome blessed us with a blu ray release of the lost action masterpiece Action U.S.A., a truly amazing spectacle of fantastic stunt work. Unfortunately, like many of Vinegar Syndrome’s releases, due to limited quantities, the release sold out fairly quickly, leaving many without the chance to see this legit action classic. But, thanks to the wonderful people over at MVD Entertainment Group, those individuals will now get a second chance! Announced today for a May release, we’ll be getting another awesome blu ray, and if you read my review over at Ultimate Action Movies, you already know I’ll be double dipping, due to how much I loved this movie. Check out the details below! Yes our friends at Vinegar Syndrome had a crack at this one with their limited edition release, but now it’s our turn! MVD REWIND COLLECTION #27 Coming May 11. 2021 ACTION USA: COLLECTOR’S […]
MVD Entertainment is proudly announcing an August 11, 2020 release for the high-definition “Ultimate Collector’s Edition” Blu-Ray debut release of the 1992 cult action horror, Split Second, in association with 101 Films. The film is pretty messy, but very stimulative flick and holds its own, with a cast led by the late Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner, The Hitcher), actress Kim Cattrall (Big Trouble in Little China, Sex and the City) and a Alastair Duncan (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo). Tony Malyam (The Burning) took the helm with final act scenes directed by Ian Sharp from a script flexibly written and revised throughout production by Gary Scott Thompson (88 Minutes, The Fast And The Furious), with creature designs by Stephen Norrington (Blade). Split Second takes place in dystopian London in the year 2008, and tells of Harley Stone (Hauer), a stoic, maverick cop on the edge as he battles tenaciously […]
I found myself on a bit of a Jean-Caude Van Damme kick on Tuesday morning what with all I had to blurt out as a guest writer over at The Action Elite. Alas, far be it for me to fall asleep on this latest bit anymore than I already have with the Belgian action star’s latest home entertainment outing courtesy of MVD Rewind Collection with Sheldon Lettich’s 1991 hit, Double Impact. MVD is debuting the action classic for the first time on Special Edition Blu-ray with loads of bonus features to make this one a special package for action fans. Lettich (Lionheart, Bloodsport, Max) directed from his own script the story of two very differing twin brothers, torn apart by tragedy and reunited years later to seek vengeance for their parents’ death…if they don’t kill each other first. Double Impact, which also stars Geoffrey Lewis and Alonna Shaw, accrued up […]
It’s been a while since MVD announced Sheldon Lettich’s Double Impact to their growing ‘Rewind Collection’. The distro banner has been quiet from time to time as the rollout got a bit complicated with certian legalities involved, but is now back and fully elucidating the film’s preparation for its tentative May 28 Collector’s Edition release on Blu-Ray. “Due to certain rights and clearance issues, we were not able to include these rough cuts.” the company said in a statement referencing announcements last year in hopes of presenting two alternative cuts. “We were, however, permitted to excise the never before seen footage in these cuts and bring you close to an hour of deleted and extended scenes. I would have loved to have had the option to show these cuts but clearance issues prevented us from including them. Either way, I’m thrilled that we still have the opportunity to share these […]
