I managed to wrap Yu Yu Hakusho over the weekend and now I’m wondering what anime should I take up next. For anyone with Crunchyroll or Netflix, you’re more than welcome to throw some suggestions at me via Twitter or on our Facebook page. So…have at it. L to R (top): Victoria Lee, Joseph Oreste, T. Ryan Mooney, Keith Davis, Zandara Kennedy L to R (bottom): Luis Fernandez, Bryan Sloyer, Wendy Vrijenhoek, Morgan Benoit, Xavier Luo Beyond that, my weekend also kept me preoccupied some with the latest and greatest of stunt and creative independent film action for another week’s treats courtesy of our weekly column, The Hit List. First up is our usual YouTube playlist attributed to some of today’s top and rising talent in film enlisting Zandara Kennedy, Frank Alfano Jr., T. Ryan Mooney, Gaby Rodriguez, Jonathan Gregg, Morgan Benoit, Kaanchana Kerr, Tanner Markley, Joseph V. Oreste, Wendy […]
I had some great downtime this weekend despite working. It definitely gave me something to do apart from relaxing a little bit more, which reminds me… It’s time to get back to the biznazz of helping great stunt professionals and creatives become a little more famous and this week’s installment of The Hit List is here to do just that. Aaron “The Ginger Ninja” Gassor starts it up in the new stunt reel playlist followed by the talents of Braxton McAllister, John Nania, Cameron Okubo, Ilana Collins, William Greenburg, Kyle Glenn Thomas and Jason Triplett. Wrapping it up is a stellar sell by Marcus Shakesheff (Wonder Woman, Kamikaze) for his YouTube channel followed by stunt coordinator and choreography reels from Andrew Carlisi and Jessica Erin Bennett, and a YouTuber’s new fan reel featuring Fabien Garcia (Die Fighting) which I’m sharing because…well, I miss the guy and I hope he comes back […]
The week turned out quite different for content rollout it seems! It wasn’t as quiet as I thought it would be last week and so this week’s Hit List should be plenty filling, and I thank you, readers, for tuning back in. As always, we begin with a nifty round of stunt reels from some of today’s budding and top stunt performers, starting with Kate Cochran, Tien Hoang, Sam Situmorang, Mustafa Bulut, Stephen Koepfer, Jennifer Badger, Joshua Pereira, Billy Bussey, John Lyke, Joseph Roark, Kemet Black Whitlow and, Sergei Dmitriev, Evan Dane Taylor and Ben Van Huis. There’s currently nothing available in terms of promotion that has caught our eye as of yet, so I say give time. Meanwhile, what we have here is a bit of an experiment for three contributors at Buzzfeed – Kelsey Impicchiche, Michelle Khare and Jordan Shalhoub – who decided to partake in superhero stunt training and […]
My weekend was a little laid back…managed to catch up on a little anime and some Lady Snowblood for fun. Classic!… I also managed to finish a review for Franklin Correa’s newest indie thriller, Lyco which you can read here. In the meantime, The Hit List is back for another round of stunt reels and shorts to promote for the week and we begin with Michelle C. Smith, delightfully one of the most active and involved people I know on social media so you definitely want to follow her links at the end of her reel. We continue onward with the hard-hitting mo-cap stylings of actor and stuntman T.J. Storm, followed by reels from Frank Alfano, Steven Rummenie, William Bokan, Caitlin Huston, Rustic Bodomov, Spencer Thomas, Andrei Runtso, Max Laurin, Jessica Bennett, Ozzy Ramirez, Najmeddin Al Hadad, Mustafa Bulut and an explosive, kick-ass, dietary finish by action star Scott Adkins. Next up is […]
Greetings everyone, and welcome back to another installation of the Hit List. Lately I’m getting the feeling that the workload here is lightening up a bit – it feels like a bit of a sign that I may be running out of awesome shorts to share and I hope I’m wrong. At any rate, it’s a new week and we’re jamming with some great stuff now online, and we’re kicking things off as usual with a slightly smaller, but fantastic playlist of great stunt reels. First up is a video from a couple of guys behind the martial arts film fighting group, SG Action. Together, they’ve now moved on to something quite special for their own over in Leeds in the UK with the new multifunctional training facility, Level Up, and their latest minisampler highlighting Open Day from a few weeks ago is up and running. Note their official website […]
Well, Monday night has arrived and I pretty much consider myself well-rested seeing as how I ended up back in blogger-mode on Sunday night. Some days you burn out, and on others you just start clicking…it’s funny, really. Anyway, with our return to the start of a new week, the Hit List is back just as well, lending nods to a meaty handful of stunt professionals every week in attribution to their hard work shown in reels and shortfilms alike. Alas, the new stunt reel playlist for the week is now up and running with reels by Donovan Sheehan, Boris Martinez, Marco Pancrazi, an awesome action reel by Raze co-star Allene Quincy, Jacob Sebastian Malm‘s latest reel featuring his Turandot stunt team from the summer in an illuminous new fire showreel, and actor David Sakurai in a new Vimeo-exclusive action reel of his own assembled from several of his recent […]
Oh look! More videos. It’s funny, really. I always expect to run short every week and I usually end up with at least 20 or more. This week I’m just shy of a few and I wouldn’t be surprised if I missed any. Some of these gems are not easily detectable through simple searches. Anyway, let’s get this list started with some tricking and stunting reels! Martial Club founding member Andy Le‘s is up first and while this isn’t his first appearance in a Hit List article, it probably won’t be the last. The reel slate also includes stuntmen Brian Ho, Alfred Hsing, Daniel Graham, Vincent DeComo Helvetic Tricking’s latest feats within lush Swiss locales, a Bear Grylls Adventure segment featuring Greek traceur, Maria Raptaki!, and some kickass GoPro training with Hong Kong fight choreographer, Pound Of Flesh action director John Salvitti! Brian Ho – Stunt Demo 2015 from Brian […]
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from independent film and fight choreography group Fight Factory Stunt Team, but now they’ve returned with another new skit they’ve released today in the form of the new experimental shortfilm, Roman. The new short features freerunner and stunt trainer Narayana Cabral who I’ve celebrated before as one of the most talented action stylists I’ve seen on the internet in the past year and more, and his latest performance here, while just a three-minute taste of what he can do, is no exception. When his close friend and ally is kidnapped, Roman Johnson comes face to face with an old rival, Kenji Yamanosuke. When asked to kill his old master – Kenji’s father – Roman has no choice but to deceive both sides, and finds himself in a dangerous trap. The only option? Fight. The short is directed by fellow industry stuntman and indie […]
Superhero movies are nothing new for people like independent filmmaker, stuntman and actor John Wusah who is serving up a dish full of his own masked heroics for his latest superhero-inspired shortfilm, Valiant. Co-starring Katie Kabili and co-directed by actor Michael Lehr, Valiant is the latest project kicking things off for Wusah in his latest collaboration with 108 Films and cinematic action stunt team Fight Factory. Not much dialogue is heard here, nor is there the usual big budget spectacle or any special effects or wires as Valiant delivers clear, cut and dry martial arts action with a noteworthy, inspiring message wrapped in a little homage to superheroes from all walks of life. The shortfilm also sets another signature example of non-budgeted yet ambitious efforts that carry heavily on the continually creative efforts of a flourishing group of film professionals who very much remain an active lot to look out […]
The official Facebook page for actor and independent filmmaker John Wusah (Mortal Kombat Legacy – Season 2) just published the official trailer for the upcoming shortfilm titled Valiant. Upon collaborating with fight training and indie action film choreography team, Fight Factory 108, the new project came after his in response to his previous work, including his early 2013 action cop short, 245, from fans who wanted to see more from Wusah and his independent film base, Wusah Productions. Wusah, who started out earlier in his life as a professional dancer before growing as a martial artist, stunt performer and coordinator, shared some of his thoughts with Film Combat Syndicate in an earlier discussion regarding some of his hopes he shares and goals he hopes to achieve in the world of film. “Growing up watching Bruce Lee, Jet Li and Jackie Chan, I knew that I too, was capable of it […]
In the tradition of continuing to introduce short practice fights that bring a sense of cinematic production value, the folks over at Fight Factory 108 took to YouTube this week to share their latest little 1-minute gem, Smack(ed) Down, directed by Michael Lehr. Testing out a newly made prop chair in addition to some new camera equipment, the clip featuring two of the team’s own, Katelyn Brooke and Narayana Cabral, both best known for their roles in Micah Brock’s highly successful action comedy webseries, Slug Street Scrappers. While the clip is very short, it also serves as a noteworthy heads-up for anyone interested in what the world of independent action has to offer. And in the New Year, there will be plenty. Among other projects, Lehr and Cabral will also be seen in an upcoming collaborative action short with dancer, actor, stunt coordinator and filmmaker John Wusah titled Valiant. So […]
Narayana Cabral is a natural-born athlete, multifaceted in martial arts, freerunning, gymnastics, aerial body manipulation, and skateboarding. Growing up in Southern California, he has since applied himself from a very young age, working to illustrate his abilities on both sides of the camera, performing stuntwork and comprehensive stunt coordination and fight choreography, teaching, editing, direction and cinematography. With lifelong dreams of becoming a martial arts action star, inspired by such contemporary action hits such as Ong Bak, The Forbidden Kingdom, The Raid: Redemption, Ip Man 2 and Undisputed 3, his years of incorporating his physical prowess with years of independent filmmaking experience has led him to train and work with numerous people, from Micah Brock, Shaun Charney and Chancler Hayes, to martial arts cinema greats like Erik Betts and Art Camacho. (You can view some of Narayana’s training footage with Art Camacho here and here.) Narayana also attributes the pursuit […]
