A new Friday report by Variety‘s Patrick Frater confirms the completion Blade Of The 47 Ronin, the sequel to the original Keanu Reeves-led 2013 Universal Pictures release. Actor and filmmaker Ron Yuan (Step Up China) directs for a second venture with Tim Kwok producing, and a script by John Swetnam, Lucifer actress Aimee Garcia, and A.J. Mendez. The film, which wrapped in Hungary this week, hails from Universal’s 1440 Productions shingle. Actress Anna Akana (Jupiter’s Legacy) stars alongside U.S. martial artist Teresa Ting and Mike Moh (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood), and Warrior actor Dustin Nguyen, along with Chris Pang, Japanese actor and model Fukuyama Chikako, action star Mark Dacascos, Luna Fujimoto, Akira Koieyama and Nino Furuhata. MINNAL MURALI: Basil Joseph’s New Superhero Thriller Teases With Dark Allure

The campaign for director Basil Joseph’s new Malayalam superhero thriller, Minnal Murali, has been a light-hearted affair up to this point since Netflix proceeded its September announcement with a first trailer back in October. A new trailer is currently making the rounds though, and it definitely emulates something much darker, serious and supernatural to its imagery. I reckon this should balance things out enough to cover the bases some. Set in the 90s, Minnal Murali is an origin story of an ordinary man-turned-superhero Murali, who is struck by a bolt of lightning, which bestows him with special powers. Minnal Murali is produced by Weekend Blockbusters (Sophia Paul), and stars Tovino Thomas in the title role, along with Guru Somasundaram, Harisree Ashokan and Aju Varghese, and will stream worldwide on December 24.

TIME TO HUNT: Netflix To Produce English-Language Remake For ‘iBoy’ And ‘Night Teeth’ Director

Netflix will reteam with iBoy and Night Teeth helmer Adam Randall for an English-language revamp of director Yoon Sung-hyun’s dystopian action crime thriller, Time To Hunt. The report comes from Deadline’s Andreas Wiseman who also notes that the streamer has appealed to a 150-page document by Randall as the company searches for a writer. Randall, also known for 2019 horror I See You, told us: “I watched the movie early in lockdown and thought it was a really strong concept. It’s half heist, half chase movie, set in a near dystopia, so it combines three of my favourite cinematic genres. Netflix Japan Festival 2021 unveiled concept art for its upcoming feature adaptation of Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise’s hit mecha/sci-fi anime franchise, Gundam, which you can view above. Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) is directing from a script by Brian K. Netflix Japan Festival 2021 is off to the races this week with a slew of ambitious new projects well on the way from here through the next few years. Netflix has announced it’s first acquisition under their first look partnership with The Stone Quarry Productions, a production company founded by Zack and Deborah Snyder and their producing partner Wesley Coller. So this critic must preface this trailer preview with a stark admission: The initial news of John Cho being cast as the lead Spike Spiegel didn’t sit well with me; it seemed like a casting oversight to select a non-action star like Cho over Keanu Reeves, who publicly outed himself as a long-time fan of the series. The long running tokusatsu franchise Power Rangers latest season will find it’s home exclusively on Netflix, Deadline reports. Power Rangers: Dino Fury season 2 will debut in the spring of 2022, the first to be exclusive to the platform. Dino Fury is the first season complete produced by Hasbro since acquiring the franchise in 2018 in a cash and stock purchase from Saban Brands. Netflix’s adaption of classic anime Cowboy Bebop has been a hot topic of discussion ever since it’s announcement in 2017. After a rather adorable behind the scenes teaser featuring the dog cast as the crew’s beloved corgi, Ein, only a few on-set photos have accompanied occasional bits of news around the show. Early Friday, Netflix announced that the show would finally see release on November 19th. Today, Netflix ups the hype factor by dropping their version of the iconic opening sequence from the TV show. The opening features the theme song from the anime, TANK! by The Seatbelts and legendary composer Yoko Kanno, whom is confirmed as the show’s composer. Jiwoo joins a drug cartel and becomes a mole in the police force to seek the truth behind her father’s death. She encounters harsh truths in the course of carrying out her revenge.
