Live-Action MEGA MAN Gets Greenlit At Fox

The live-action videogame genre continues its push in film following recent updates on games like Assassin’s Creed, Borderlands, Mortal Kombat and Tekken to name a few. The word now is that a live-action version of the classic Nintendo franchise, Mega Man, is now in development at Fox with Peter Chernin of Chernin Entertain producing. Launching in 1987 from Capcom with Rock Man as its Japanese title, the 8-bit Nintendo franchise focused on the story of Dr. Light, whose work ends up stolen by Dr. Wily and is converted into a squad of evil battle droids with specific skills, with the goal of world domination. In response, Light upgrades his lab assistant, Rock, arming him with a canon and battle armor and software to help absorb the powers of Wily’s droids upon their defeat. THE LEGEND OF ZELDA Is In Live-Action Development For Netflix

I admit, I’m not too familiar with The Legend Of Zelda games seeing as how it was never really my cup of tea. Ultimately though, it became immensely popular over the last twenty-nine years since it emerged on Nintendo and as much as I heard of it, the question always dawned on me as to why it never hit the big screen. Well, as the Wall Street Journal puts it, Nintendo is pretty protective of its property, although it appears they are currently working on a potential series for Netflix. The game itself is set in the land of Hyrule and focuses on a Hylian warrior named Link who sets out to save Princess Zelda from the evil desert-dwelling Gerudo thief, Ganondorf. The report also states that they’re structuring the potential series in a family-friendly fashion similar to HBO’s popular middle-Earth series, Game Of Thrones. Heavily action oriented, the two filmmakers have a great knack for blending their visual style and creativity with overall knowledge of popular entertaining culture, translating it all into a series of gems that continue to grant them their growing audience. Remember your favorite classic Nintendo characters Mario and Luigi? Yeah, I played it obsessively too, and pathetically I never beat the first game until I was in college and a member of a genre game-comic book-anime fanclub. Yep, we had almost everything, even the classic Nintendo unit, and I played that sucker until I finally beat it! Ah, memories. LOL! Anyway, here’s a little nostalgia for you this week in what I might possibly start as weekly entries of “This Week In Freerunning” (I was inspired, what can I say? Lol).
