The Noble Classics: VOL. 4

Last week got a little bit busy for me, so I couldn’t edit together Graeme Noble’s classic picks of the week. So I’m making up for lost time by attributing today’s bundle to international action superstar, Donnie Yen. And not for nothing either, considering he has another one well on the way to a release in a few months from director Teddy Chen titled Kung Fu Jungle with co-star Wang Baoqiang. Yen is still in the middle of bringing the goods together with other films ahead as well, including the second chapter to Iceman 3D, and 70’s crime thriller, Dragon City. Nonetheless, Yen has done some incredible work in the past three days that can still use your attention, as well as appreciation. Subway Cinema/NYAFF Presents: OLD SCHOOL KUNG FU FEST 2014!

New York City residents lucky enough to have three full days off this week can now share in the joy and wonderment to be experienced at this month’s Old School Kung Fu Fest to be held at the Anthology Film Archive. Now in its second year, the events will be hosted by Subway Cinema and The New York Asian Film Festival in conjunction with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office and The Korea Society, with a total of nine films, guest speakers and an artists’ poster exhibit paying tribute to legendary late great kung fu cinema auteur Lau Kar-Leung. Here are the list of all nine films, comprised of eight public titles with trailers in between, and a secret film to be announced midway through the festival, which lasts from April 18 through April 20. British Indie Action Film Group Begins Crowdfunding For 301 TROOP: ARAWN RISING

Actor, writer and filmmaker Lee Bennett is out with a new campaign this week to help fund a new trailer pitch for 301 Troop: Arawn Rising. The new crowdfunder comes in light of major buzz surrounding Bennett’s new UK-based British film production group titled Only The New Breed, a company devoted to delivering quality films that abide by old school standards long since abandoned thanks to the use of CGI and wires. Only The New Breed is looking for as much help as they can from action fans throughout the United Kingdom to help bring their 301 Troop: Arawn Rising promotional trailer to life in time to shop it in the film festival circuit.
