Streaming Sleepers: In THE WITCH: PART TWO – THE OTHER ONE, More Witches, More Fun For Everyone!
I still want me a threequel to this.
I still want me a threequel to this.
What I really want is a third installment of The Witch from director Park Hoon-jung. As much I enjoy his work however, I’ll take what I can get, and that includes his latest four-part action thriller series, The Tyrant. When U.S. intelligence learns that the South Korean government is working on a deadly new virus under a secretive program, they demand that all research be halted immediately and that samples be turned over. However, the team is attacked and the sample is stolen by a professional killer. With everything at stake, a U.S. agent tries to retrieve the deadly sample and what ensues is a breathtaking action-packed battle between intelligence services and unknown parties. The Tyrant stars Jo Yoon-su, Cha Seung-won, Kim Seon-ho, and Kim Kang-woo. All four parts will stream simultaneously on Disney+ Korea and stateside on Hulu beginning Wednesday.
I have yet to see the complete resumé of filmmaker Park Hoon-jung’s work. What I can assert for the most part from what I’ve seen is that if you’re looking for an absolute thrill, you won’t be disappointed. His most recent effort, The Childe, is exemplary of this. Little was known about this film’s plot from the outset of its release campaign, and brilliantly so considering what little there was to promote without being spoilery, for the most part. For what its worth however, the logline is simple enough to be enticing for anyone who loves an envigorating cat-and-mouse thriller out of South Korea, particularly one whose story is set between worlds, and with a cast of lead actors whose roles are budding opposites with one another whilst ultimately finding commonality as the plot thickens. This story puts the viewer right into the gruesome world of a mysterious figure (Kim […]
Director Park Hoon-jung’s relationship with North American distro banner Well Go USA continues to pay off as it gears up to release his latest action thriller, The Childe. The official trailer is now online for the film starring Kim Seon-ho, Kang Tae-ju, Kim Kang-woo and Go Ara, and opening in U.S. theaters on June 30. In a desperate attempt to secure funds for his mother’s surgery, an amateur boxer searches for the wealthy estranged father he’s never met. But after a lead takes him from the Philippines to Korea, he is relentlessly pursued by a quirky yet highly dangerous man. As additional entities join in his pursuit and cause chaos, he will be forced to confront a shocking truth that may cost him his life.
Park Hoon-jung is a concurrent favorite for Asian film fans, and his latest aims to make that same case once more with action crime thriller, The Childe. The first official U.S. teaser is here too, and shows about as much as earlier footage already has, and so not much has been given away, storywise. Nice one! What we do know is that actor Kang Tae-joo is making his feature debut from a script by Park. Here, he plays an aspiring boxer born to a Filipino mother and living in the Philippines. He gets an unexpected call and jets to South Korea to find the father who abandoned him, only to find himself hunted by malevolent forces for various reasons. That’s it. That’s all we know to the story apart from any stills and footage we’ve seen, and none of us are the wiser. Still, the momentum is cooking. Also starring […]
At this point all I really want is my threequel to The Witch franchise, and as long as Park Hoon-jung is back for a third time to direct it, I’ve got no complaints. In the meantime, I’m perfectly fine with another gritty, modern actioner out of South Korea from the celebrated Night In Paradise director who is now under way with Tyrant, as Acemaker Movieworks handles international sales. A covert program called ‘The Tyrant Project’ that was carried out in Korea is uncovered by the US intelligence agency, which orders the Korean counterpart to immediately shut down. The project is dismantled and is about to be handed over to the US but an accident takes place during the handoff. Operation staff Ja-kyung and Mo-yong successfully hijack the program sample as per Director Choi’s order. US intelligence agent Paul finds out about the accident and decides to retrieve the sample himself. […]
Screendaily‘s Jean Noh revealed this week that Park Hoon-jung’s The Childe was acquired by Well Go USA. World sales agent Contents Panda on hand for buyers to sell the film among its slate at the Cannes market. In front of “Marco,” a boxer who travels around an illegal Philippine stadium, forces with different purposes, including an unidentified man “Ghost,” appear to pursue madness. Kang Tae-joo and Kim Seon-ho star along with Kim Kang-woo and Go Ara. Next Entertainment World, who launched the teaser a few days ago, releasing the action thriller in South Korean cinemas on June 21.
New World, The Witch 1 & 2 and Night In Paradise director Park Hoon-jung is turning in another entry into the fast-moving and gritty crime arena this time with The Childe. Next Entertainment World launched the official first teaser on Monday commencing the campaign whilst aiming for a local June 21 rollout. Directed from a script also by Park, Kang Tae-joo makes his feature debut in the lead role of a struggling Filipino-Korean boxer with an ailing mother. When he receives an unexpected call and is taken to Korea and sets out to find the father who abandoned him, he finds himself running for his life as he’s mysteriously spied on and chased for malevolent reasons. Also making his feature debut is actor Kim Seon-ho, with Kim Kang-woo (Guimoon: The Lightless Door) and Go Ara (Phantom Detective) also starring. Enjoy the teaser!
Mark your calendars for November 8, because that’s when Well Go USA finally heads to households with the DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital releases of Park Hoon-jung’s hit sci-fi action horror, The Witch: Part 2 – The Other One. The film marks Park’s follow-up to 2018’s The Witch: Part 1 – The Subversion, and both films are absolute delights if you’re looking to bide your time with some amazing South Korean cinema. In this sequel to the popular Korean sci-fi action thriller THE WITCH: SUBVERSION, the story moves away from a confined secret lab and out into the real world. After a mysterious girl emerges as the sole survivor of a bloody raid on the research facility behind the top-secret Witch Program, she is rescued by a pair of civilians who soon realize the girl is both very powerful and in very grave danger. However, as the assassins tasked with locating […]
It’s been four years since writer/director Park Hoon-jung thrilled audiences with The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion, featuring Kim Da-mi in the title role with a dark, brooding tale about a young girl whose mysterious past comes back to haunt her with violent effect. Four years later, the stage is set for another offering as Park delivers in full once more with The Witch: Part 2. The Other One – intriguingly titled, despite some of the sheepish reactions it got online, and certainly lends to a sort of menacing air per the narrative. Both films are set against the backdrop of the Witch Program, a black-ops project aimed experimenting on young children at a private facility known as the Ark, with the result ending up in the child’s escape after a catastrophic event. Park’s sequel follows suit in some ways, firstly kicking things off with a foreboding prologue, which also […]
Hope you’re all caught up now because Well Go USA has officially released the official trailer for Park Hoon-jung’s The Witch: Part 2 – The Other One. The company has acquired theatrical and digital rights for the U.K., Australia and New Zealand, and for North America where the film will release in theaters and on digital beginning June 17. The long-awaited seuqel centers on another young escapee from a top-secret black site research facility similar to the one in the first film. The girl is soon rescued by a couple but are soon faced with the assassins now hunting her down. The film marks the screen debut for actress and newcomer Shin Si-ah who headlines the sequel from Park following his inaugural 2018 hit thriller starring Kim Da-mi who also reprises her role in the latest film. They are joined by Park Eun-bin, Seo Eun-soo, Jin Goo, Sung Yu-been and […]
What better way is there to get hyped up for a long-awaited sequel to a film that’s been highly praised after four years? Well, there was the teaser two weeks ago to Park Hoon-jung’s The Witch Part Two: The Other One, but we can definitely chalk things up a notch more now with a brand new trailer. The major difference here though is we now get a full look at newcomer Shin Si-ah who is starring as the lead this time around. We also get to dive just a little deeper into what sets things up for the big recapitulation to come – ripe no less with the kind of spectacular action and horror thrills that made the first film so enjoyable, and we definitely get to see actress Jo Min-soo in her dual portrayal stemming from her role(s) in the first. Somewhere, a girl wakes up in a huge […]
I hope the rest of you got a chance at some point in the last four years to check out Park Hoon-jung’s sci-fi action horror, The Witch: Part 1 – The Subversion. That a sequel exists now with The Witch: Part 2 – The Other One is some of the best news ever given what’s offered in the first film, and it kind of irks me that there are still films out there subtitled as the first of what would have been potential film franchises that never came to pass. I gotta say, the 2018 Kim Da-mi starrer deserved every bit of love it got from audiences, and I’m just as excited as everyone else that this story is getting a continuation. Somewhere, a girl wakes up in a huge secret laboratory. The girl accidentally meets Kyung-hee who is trying to protect their house from the gang who harasses her. […]
Next Entertainment World (NEW) is slating a June 15 release for The Witch: Part Two – The Other One, the newest sequel from director Park Hoon-jung following 2018’s The Witch: Part 1 – The Subversion. We now know this thanks to new poster art dictating otherwise, with Park directing a cast led by newcomer and actress Cynthia (a.k.a. Shin Sia) starring. Somewhere, a girl wakes up in a huge secret laboratory. The girl accidentally meets Kyung-hee who is trying to protect their house from the gang who harasses her. When the gang bumps into the girl, they are overpowered by an unexpected power of her. In the meantime, the secret laboratory starts to find the missing girl. Who is this mysterious girl and why is she being chased? Also starring are Park Eun-bin, Seo Eun-soo, Jin Goo, Sung Yu-been, Jo Min-soo and Lee Jong-suk, with actress Kim Da-mi reprising her […]
So, I’ve been living under a rock that didn’t allow me to receive any updates about The Witch: Part 2 – The Other One which apparently has a first look making the rounds as of a few months ago, and so I’m compelled to jump on it here courtesy of HanCinema as I know a lot of us who keep up with Korean films have been looking forward to this since the pic was announced in late 2020. As for the photo above, my guess is as good as anyone’s knows what’s happening here, athough I reckon that something particularly sinister is abound following the first film. Much of what we have though can pretty much be filled in as a new synopsis spotlights the coming tale of another girl on the run from a similar underground lab like in the inaugural 2018 film, where children are tested and tormented […]
