Sony/Marvel project Silver & Black may still have a ways to go before actually getting the ball rolling with Gina Prince-Bythewood set to direct. Its screenwriter, however, isn’t holding back on her involvement with several major IP titles still in embryotic and development stages. Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Tomb Raider, Captain Marvel) is taking to the keyboard once more to script an adaptation of Artemis, Andy Weir’s 2017 novel and follow-up to his debut bestseller, The Martian. As Mike Fleming Jr. noted exclusively at Deadline, Phil Lord & Chris Miller (The Lego Movie) are reportedly being tapped to helm the film for Fox whose Simon Kinberg will produce with Adita Sood at New Regency. Crown describes Artemis as an adrenaline-charged crime caper that features smart, detailed world-building based on real science. It centers on Jasmine Bashara, aka Jazz, just another too-smart, directionless twentysomething chafing at the constraints of her small town and […]
There was once a time a little over three years ago when I felt overcome by the presence of so many Spider-Man movies. I’d like to believe Sony has finally managed to find its footing with this particular IP while having invested amply into fans and especially now that they’ve dug a little deeper into the fandom with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and a fresh new teaser from the weekend to start things off. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask. The trailer itself does wonderful in introducing Morales to the fray, probably […]
The new Han Solo spin-off film still doesn’t have an official title, but we now have our first look at a cast photo marking the start of principal photography at Pinewood Studios as of Monday. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie) are directing the film as one of several current spin-offs for Disney and Lucasfilm’s on-going Star Wars saga in lieu of Rian Johnson’s coming Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The film, opening on May 25, 2018, stars actor Alden Ehrenreich as inspired by Harrison Ford’s portrayal of Han Solo, next to Finnish actor and basketballer Joonas Suotamo as loyal Wookie companion, Chewbacca, and will explore the events of both heroes leading up to the main canon’s second chapter that began with Episode IV: A New Hope. Disney’s recently-cast Simba for the upcoming live-action installment of The Lion King and co-star of Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, actor […]
May 25, 2018 is when Star Wars fans will brace themselves for another inspired spin-off of the hit sci-fi fantasy space opera, now with the untitled Han Solo origin film following the big screen success of Gareth Edwards’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. As such, production has officially commenced by way of co-director Chris Miller’s Twitter announcement a la clapperboard illustrating the film’s working title, Red Cup. Miller is joined by co-helmer Phil Lord with actor Alden Ehrenrich succeeding the title role in a tale that will illustrate Solo’s career ascension as the smuggler, captain of the Millenium Falcon who would soon play a pivotal role in the rebel alliance against the Empire. Also starring are Donald Glover who will take the mantle as Lando Calrissian previosly played by Billy Dee Williams, actress Emilia Clarke in an undisclosed role and Woody Harrelson who will star as Solo’s mentor. Stay […]
Sony Pictures Animation unveiled its animation slate between now and 2018, insisting on its “commitment to increase overall output while continuing to offer its distinctive mix of family films”. One such endeavor is the upcoming Unititled Animated Spider-Man Movie which was announced back in 2015 long before we would learn more on the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, which already has a trailer hitting high notes among fans. For this, we turn to the specific installation of alternate character Miles Morales, currently seeing his evolution in the Marvel publication as of 2011 following the death of Peter Parker. Gaining powers similar to that of Parker’s after crossing paths with a missing lab spider, the young Black/Hispanic teen eventually succumbs to his newfound abilities with the goal of becoming the hero he’s destined to be, ultimately earning himself a list of villains in the process. A live-action adaptation may be far off as […]
Well, it was a matter of months or longer, but now it looks like the production behind the forthcoming Han Solo spin-off has reached a new plateau. Deadline reports that Hail, Caesar! co-star Alden Ehrenreich has officially been cast to play the title role, with the looming possibility of a cameo in Gareth Edwards’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The news comes as one of a few updates including that of character actor Spencer Wilding being tapped to suit up as Darth Vader just a few days ago, all since the Han Solo spin-off was announced last summer. Other candidates for Han Solo included finalists like Transformers: Age Of Extinction co-star Jack Reynor and Kingsman star Taron Egerton. The Lego Movie pair Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing from a script by Jon Kasdan and his father, Star Wars: Episodes V, VI and VII writer Lawrence Kasdan who […]
Disney and Lucasfilm are not done growing into their newly revamped efforts to spawn a whole new slate of films and other media properties for the longstanding Star Wars franchise. Darth Vader is set to appear in the 2016 release of Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars Anthology: Rebel One now already underway with second unit production following J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens opening before this Christmas, and it’s looking more certain that Hong Kong Donnie Yen will be joining Oscar Isaac and actor Harrison Ford among the cast for director Rian Johnson’s contribution to the 2017-dated eighth episode in the main saga. That said, speaking of Han Solo – a name that has spent quite a bit of time swirling amid rumors for a possible standalone film within the past year or so, Star Wars.com is finally announcing an anthology movie based on the character with The Lego Movie […]
