It took almost 20 years to Phillip Rhee to return to cinema, and he did it directing, starring and even writing the script of this low budget Karate Kid exploitation, that brings back the uplifting spirit of the first “Best of the Best”, turning the same formula into a movie mostly oriented for kids. Here, we have a bunch of no good for nothing kids that trains martial arts in a community center, that with the help of “Phillip Rhee” as new coach, will find the way to overcome themselves. Specific fans of actor and martial artist Phillip Rhee may know him from a pre-Best Of The Best list of films like LA Streetfighters and Furious. However, it was through the aforementioned 1989 Bob Radler-directed martial arts tournamant drama in which he rose to fame along with brother, fellow actor and martial artist Simon Rhee, eventually leading to a theatrical sequel in 1992 before two more home releases 1995 and 1998. Actor and martial artist Phillip Rhee is finally returning to the screen this summer for the release of his long-awaited martial arts family drama, Underdog Kids. It will be seventeen years since Rhee‘s previous movie career left off with the popular Best Of The Best franchise in the 1990’s, and for many fans it will be a celebration to see him back in his cinematic element with a young and vibrant cast amomg several of whom are talented martial artists, a crew accompanied by brother, Master Simon Rhee, and James Lew and Marc Canonizado designing the action, and a handful of legendary faces to appear as well, no less. Actor Philip Rhee (pictured left) took to social media this week to unveil three working posters for the upcoming release of his latest labor of love, a martial arts family drama titled Underdog Kids. The film is Rhee‘s return to the set of a martial arts movie nearly fifteen years after leaving his mark with all four movies of the Best Of The Best franchise. The film was also written and produced by Rhee, with a rough summary that centers around the character, Jimmy “The Lightining Bolt” Lee (Rhee), a former MMA fighter who loses everything after getting hit by a semi-truck while rescuing a 5 year old boy. In the wake of hardship, Jimmy finds his calling with martial arts as a vessel to mentor troubled young kids while preparing them for a major championship tournament in Beverly Hills.
