I bought this film multiple times over a few years just to make sure I had the right version. I was that persnickety and obsessed. Here’s to you, ONG BAK! 🥂
In Thailand, you are given several names when you were born. But when Tatchakorn Yeerum took to the film stage and partook in the legendary legacy of stellar cinematic action, the world would come to know him as the one and only Tony Jaa, star of the 2003 break out hit, Ong Bak. The film, directed by Prachya Pinkaew, launched an international wave of fan hype among martial arts action cinephiles that put Jaa on the map of growing superstardom among legends like personal favorites Jackie Chan, the late great Bruce Lee, and even local legendary actor and Thai action auteur, Panna Rittikrai. The film also brought forth two epic sequels that explored the legendary etymology of the first film, with deeper scope in storytelling and stunning action sequences that defied death, and essentially, even logic. All three films have since been distributed over the years on DVD, Blu-Ray and […]
International action star Tony Jaa is well on his way to completing his transition over to North American territory with the current production of director Ekachai Uekrongtham‘s all-star action adventure, Skin Trade, and Jaa‘s forthcoming appearance next April in Fast And Furious 7. The actor and celebrity purveyor of Muay Thai and dynamic stunt performance will also be observed in the long-awaited release of his latest Thai action epic from director Prachya Pinkaew, Tom Yum Goong 2, newly titled for its U.S. release as The Protector 2, slated for iTunes and VoD release on March 27 before hitting theaters on May 2. Watch the trailer below the following description and stay tuned for more info. SYNOPSIS: Boss Suchart is the influential owner of a major elephant camp. When he was murdered in his own home – the killer delivered three fatal blows on his body – all evidence points to […]
It was not too long ago that I ranted in an editorial I crossposted over at The Action Elite about the need for a redux of the latest attempt at live-action for Tekken. At the time, my article didn’t meet much ire from a lot of readers (although I wouldn’t be surprised if certain folks disapproved), but many of the reactions I received were pretty upbeat and understanding. Although as badly as I would have wanted to see Tekken remade properly, after the last couple of years, I never would have guessed what would happened next…which now leads me to actor and martial arts action star Kane Kosugi. Kosugi seen some great fortune throughout his career from childhood to adulthood, nowadays even moreso from the widespread approval of his most recent role in Isaac Florentine’s newest martial arts action thriller, Ninja: Shadow Of A Tear. Now the word, forwarded from […]
It was back in April that Twitchfilm reported the last known activity on the last action thriller, Vengeance Of An Assassin. And while further information was scant, the folks at Sahamongkol Film International still managed to generate some excitement prior to the pending release of its latest 3D sequel studio blockbuster, Tom Yum Goong 2, starring Tony Jaa prior to launching his next big career move with the current production of Fast And Furious 7 set for July 11, 2014. With Sahamongkol now in the spotlight once more, further mention of Vengeance Of An Assassin also announced the return to the big screen for TYG2 co-star Dan Chupong who made waves in the explosive 2004 remake of the 1984 thriller, Born To Fight with Thai action legend and cinematic fight choreographer extraordinaire, Panna Rittikrai, followed by the 2006 collaboration, Dynamite Warrior. And new information this week now illustrates the film […]
Sahamongkol Film International has unveiled the final trailer on Wednesday for Prachya Pinkaew‘s latest epic action thriller, Tom Yum Goong 2. Several banners and character posters promoting the film were released over the past month in keeping with the anticipation from fans who have been following the film as of its announcement a few years ago. And despite the time it took to complete production, the film is still poised to bring even more large scale action and spectacle to audiences faithful to international action star Tony Jaa, and the dynamic cast joining him, including returning actor Petchai Wongkamlao, actor RZA, actress Ratha Phongarm, acclaimed action Thai action stars Jija Yanin and Dan Chupong, and rising martial arts actor Maresse Crump. And to top it all off, Pinkaew is delivering it all on a silver platter in pure 3D tastiness come October 23, 2013. Without question, I sincerly hope that […]
