Action auteur Koichi Sakamoto’s newest release, Shogun’s Ninja, just hit the SVOD arena in recent weeks over at the Samurai VS Ninja YouTube channel. To add, REMOW has since rebranded the channel, mounting a list of other titles set up to stream for Tokyo-based REMOW’s new FAST (free ad-supported television) live-streaming channel now dubbed 24/7 Samurai-Shinobi on Prime Video in the U.S.. “Japanese samurai and ninja stories have captivated audiences for generations, and we’re proud to introduce this legacy of action-packed, visually stunning, and deeply emotional tales to a new generation of fans in the U.S.,” said Akira Ishii, Founder and CEO of REMOW. “From the high-flying ninja battles of SHOGUN’S NINJA to the honorable warriors of Zatoichi and 13 Assassins, these stories offer the same thrilling action, rich character depth, and cinematic spectacle that have made franchises like John Wick and The Mandalorian global sensations. The film reunites John Cena and Idris Elba since The Suicide Squad — but this time, they’re not trying to kill each other…probably!
The creative minds behind “The Brothers’ Sun” and “For All Mankind” are steering the new adaptation based on Wang Dulu’s classic Crane-Iron pentalogy.
On days like today I’m reminded that there’s a ton of streaming content I need to keep up with. That includes the season rollout of The Silent Service on Prime Video last year based on the hit Morning Magazine manga publication, and starring Takao Osawa of Kingdom fame as the Captain of a ship gone sovereign on the high seas. As it stands now, we have a sequel feature in toe with The Silent Service: Battle Of The Arctic Ocean which arrives in September 26 from Toho, and is also set to release on Prime Video. Kohei Yoshino returns to direct the feature sequel which was announced back in December, hailing from Amazon MGM Studios and CREDEUS. Check out the trailer and share your thoughts with us on Facebook, BlueSky, Instagram, or Discord.
A new poster is out touting Takeshi Kitano’s new subversive crime comedy, Broken Rage. Kitano directs a cast that also lists fellow Kubi co-stars Tadanobu Asano and Shidō Nakamura, and Nao Omori, along with career cohort Hakuryu for the Amazon MGM Studios-produced flick. Kitano’s Broken Rage explores “comedy within a violent film,” to redefine the norms of the yakuza crime genre. According to the film’s description, “the first half follows a hitman, Nezumi (played by Takeshi Kitano), fighting for his survival when he’s caught between the police and yakuza. But in the second half, the gritty crime-action thriller takes an unexpected turn, evolving into a self-parodying comedy that retells the same story with a captivatingly humorous touch.” Broken Rage makes history as the first Japanese film produced for streaming to be officially festival-selected, with an Out Of Competition premiere slated for September 6 at the 81st Venice International Film Festival. It’s amazing that after all these years I get to ask myself “WTF is Mike Tyson doing in another movie?,” and I still don’t know, so I guess come June second with the Amazon Prime release of Taxi 5 star and director Franck Gastambide’s newest action adventure comedy, Medellin, we’re bound to find out. To save his younger brother from a dangerous cartel in Medellín, Reda (Ramzy Bedia) has a plan that is as simple as it is completely insane: Assemble a team and plan a raid in Colombia. But this crazy adventure will spiral out of control when he decides to kidnap the cartel leader’s son in order to exchange him for his brother’s life. Gastambide directs from a co-written with Charles Van Tieghem (Validé). Eric Altmayer and Nicolas Altmayer are the producers via Kowloon Films. Check out both French and English-dubbed trailers below! View this post on Instagram […]
Where does one begin when discussing a legendary gaming series such as God of War? It’s the epic tale of Kratos, a tortured Spartan warrior, hell-bent on revenge against the Greek deities that used and wronged him. Over the course of several games, he would eventually topple Mount Olympus’ pantheon and himself claim the title of God of War. The series would receive a universally acclaimed sequel/reboot in 2018 that would find it’s hero exiling himself to the Norse realm of Midgard. This game was recently followed up by the runaway success of God of War Ragnarok, winning Best Narrative, Best Action/Adventure and more at the Game Awards 2022, and selling over 5 million units in it’s launch week; the fastest selling first-party game in Playstation history. Naturally, Playstation Productions would follow this up with a bombshell announcement: they’ll be teaming up with Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios to […]
