Actor Ethan Hawke (Boyhood, Before Trilogy) is joining Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings films) and previously announced Brazilian actress and environmental activist Zaya Guarani (Postcards From Earth) for Claudio Borrelli’s new film, The Last Of The Tribe. Borrelli will direct from a screenplay by 3x Emmy nominee Mark Bailey (Downfall, The Volcano: Rescue from Whakaari), per announcements on Friday from Dave Bishop, CEO of Protagonist Pictures which is launching sales at EFM this month in Berlin. Borrelli’s The Last of the Tribe takes its inspiration from the literary work of the same name by award-winning investigative journalist Monte Reel. Billed as “a taut jungle thriller set in the wild heart of the Brazilian Amazon,” Hawke stars as William Phelan, a washed-out Chicago cop turned corporate gun-for-hire sent to investigate a death in the Amazon rainforest. Sophie Lowe and Louisa Krause are set to star in elevated survival thriller, The Dive, from rising German filmmaker Maximilian Erlenwein. Principal photography on will commence in mid-August on location in Malta and Germany. The official logline for The Dive reads as follows, according to augenschein: “A dive at one of the world’s most remote spots becomes a fight for survival for sisters Drew (25) and May (30), when rocks tumble into the sea after a landslide, trapping May in the deep.
