FLAVIA DE LUCE: Murder Mystery Family Adventure Finds Cast, Protagonist To Launch Sales At Cannes

Newcomer Isla Gie (“The Sandman,” “The Outlaws”) is set to play the titular 11-year-old Flavia De Luce for the family crime caper. She joins Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, Black Panther, Sherlock), and director Bharat Nalluri (The Man Who Invented Christmas, Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day), for a feature adaptation of the New York Times bestselling novel “The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie: A Flavia De Luce Mystery,” which is the first book from Alan Bradley’s acclaimed “Flavia De Luce” mystery novel series that to date have sold over four million copies worldwide.
Susan Coyne (“Daisy Jones and the Six,” The Man Who Invented Christmas, Mozart in the Jungle, “Anne of Green Gables”), adapted the bestseller with a script that follows the adventures of Flavia de Luce. Amateur Detective. Master Poisoner. Eleven Years Old. When she finds a dead body at her family’s decaying British manor house and her father is accused of the murder, Flavia dives into her own wild and fearless investigation, unearthing long-held family secrets and pitting herself against the true murderer.
Protagonist Pictures, whose CEO Dave Bishop made the announcement on Thursday, is launching international sales and will introduce to buyers at the upcoming Marche du Film. CAA Media Finance is handling North America.
The film is produced by Paula Mazur and Mitchell Kaplan (Guernsey, Nim’s Island) for The Mazur Kaplan Company and Robert Mickelson for Mystic Point. The two companies previously collaborated on The Man Who Invented Christmas. Protagonist Pictures CEO Dave Bishop and Chief Commercial Officer George Hamilton serve as executive producers.

Alan Bradley’s New York Times Bestselling “The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie – a Flavia De Luce Mystery,” on which the film is based, won The Debut Dagger Award, The Agatha Award, The Dilys Award, was named New York Times Review Favorite Mystery of The Year and an Amazon Top Ten in Mysteries and Thriller. It is the first novel in the series of ten Flavia De Luce Mysteries.
