Lest we stray too far from Stallone, we can’t continue from yesterday without mentioning Creed 2. Ryan Coogler shepherded the 2015 spin-off near perfectly with Michael B. Jordan starring, and host to a bevy of talent as well as a spry and impressive one-take boxing match midway in the film. Stallone and attached filmmaker Stephen Caple Jr. will commence production in Spring next year with Jordan joined once more by Tessa Thompson along with the long-rumored, expected return of Rocky IV antagonist Dolph Lundgren as Ivan Drago, and bearing rumors in mind, an actor slated to play Drago’s son, whoever that is.

With Ernest Cline’s 2011 publication of Ready Player One.. I never even read the book. All I know really is that the official trailer from earlier this year is as exquisite as one could hope with Tye Sheridan leading the dystopian future tale of a teenager who competes an immersive video game battle for a billionaire fortune and full ownership of the VR world of OASIS at the behest of its late creator. The film opens on March 30 and yes, the teaser trailer, obviously… Peep it.
Director Lee Thongkam is kind of another anomaly. Little is known about his latest independent directorial outing, The Last One, but it does have an official website up with all the trimmings…sans a trailer as there was one prior to its removal. I managed to catch a glimpse of it myself and it has all the more made me curious. The set-up? A band of survivors fight to protect something very precious in the wake of a nasty plague that has wiped the earth of all living humans with O-blood type. The cast? Kim Santiago, Luis Vallardes, Ben Bernard, and Film Combat Syndicate favorites, Felix King and Yadi Nieves. Release? Your guess is as good as mine, but do pay the official website a visit and feel free to pester all you may about this movie. As for footage, here’s a mid-production teaser from a few years ago:
Roar Uthaug still has some pretty big shoes to fill with his latest game adaptation, Tomb Raider. Alicia Vikander is the star this time around with a glimmering and gritty take on the popular IP which now has our heroine obliged to follow the mystery of her father’s death at every harrowing turn. Dominic West, Walton Goggins and Daniel Wu also star for the film’s release on March 16.
Some of the neatest superhero films have been offered to us courtesy of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men film franchise. Not all of the movies were solid, but the studio has covered enough of its bases to move forward with our ensemble of heroes as we now approach Simon Kinberg’s treatment, X-Men: Dark Phoenix with Sophie Turner in the title role for the film’s November 2 release next year. It’s early days so don’t expect any trailer footage for a while longer than required.
Stay tuned for the next five!
Rounding out the cast are Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelssohn, T.J. Miller and Simon Pegg, and quite a bit of pop culture imagery for the film’s March 30, 2018 release. Watch the new teaser below!
It’s been five years since Warner Bros. began developing an adaptation for author Ernest Cline’s award-winning bestseller novel, Ready Player One, with master filmmaker Steven Spielberg getting on board to direct back in March. Now, the studio has finalized a press release announcing an official release date for December 2017.
There’s no plot yet, but readers familiar with the source material may have an idea about where it will go in sum; The book, published in 2011, takes place in dystopian future Oklahoma City where a young gamer named Wade Watts who, with the help of four rival players, battles a powerful and dangerous corporate plutocrat in search of several late-twentieth century clues and treasures in the ultimate race for a billion dollar prize and the fate of the virtual utopian world, OASIS, and the legacy of its late creator.
The book became a worldwide phemomenon among readers since its release and Spielberg‘s attachment earlier this Spring has been nothing short of electric for fans of the property, so this is one to keep on eye on for the next couple of years.
BURBANK, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The game is on in 2017. Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures’ “Ready Player One”—the already much-anticipated sci-fi action adventure, to be directed by Steven Spielberg—has been slated for release on December 15, 2017. The announcement was made today by Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution; Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution; and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President, Worldwide Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.
A three-time Academy Award winner, Spielberg (“Schindler’s List,” “Saving Private Ryan”) is directing “Ready Player One,” based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name, which has become a worldwide phenomenon. The film is being produced by Spielberg; Donald De Line, under his De Line Pictures banner; Dan Farah; and Spielberg’s longtime colleague Kristie Macosko Krieger; with Bruce Berman serving as executive producer. De Line and Farah originally brought the project to Warner Bros.
“Ready Player One” marks a return to Warner Bros. for Spielberg, who previously directed the studio’s “Empire of the Sun,” “The Color Purple” and “A.I. Artificial Intelligence,” in addition to producing the hits “Gremlins” and “The Goonies.”
In making the announcement, Fellman stated, “Any film from Steven Spielberg is an event film, so it felt right to date this thrilling new project from one of our greatest filmmakers for the holiday season.”
Sue Kroll added, “From the success of the book, ‘Ready Player One’ already has a devoted following, and we’re excited for its fans and moviegoers everywhere to see this fantastically innovative story come to life. We know it couldn’t be in better hands, and look forward to working with Steven and the producers to bring it to the big screen.”
Kwan Vandenberg said, “There are few directors with the global stature of Steven Spielberg, so we are thrilled to be delivering his latest adventure to audiences worldwide.”
A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures, “Ready Player One” will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.
