Sales outfit Arclight has revealed a first look at Deep Water which you can view above. The new survival thriller is directed by Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea, Lionsgate’s upcoming The Strangers: Chapter 1), and stars Aaron Eckhart (The Bricklayer), and Sir Ben Kingsley (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). Bodies at Rest and The Misfits helmer Renny Harlin will direct new survival thriller Deep Water later this year. The film marks the launchpad of Simmons/Hamilton Productions (w/t), partnering KISS rock band member Gene Simmons and Arclight Films Chairman Gary Hamilton. OPERATION WILD To Pit Chinese And Indian Talent Together For Renny Harlin’s Large Scale Action Adventure
Director Renny Harlin will helm Operation Wild, according to Patrick Frater at Variety detailing a new three-film co-development deal made during events over at the Shanghai International Film Festival. The deal was made between leading Indian entertainment company, B4U, and Extraordinary Entertainment, Harlin’s shared production banner with Kung Fu Yoga producer DJ Parmar. Brian Brightly is penning Operation Wild which is described as a large-scale action adventure centered on “two elite combat warriors from China and India who lead covert forces to shut down a global wildlife-poaching criminal organization.” Casting details are unknown while the report does suggest prominent Chinese and Indian actors will be brought aboard. “These films will highlight the emotional bond and cultural values that are common between the people of China and India,” said B4U CEO Ishan Saksena. “The enormous success of co-production films like ‘Kung Fu Yoga’ and other Indian films has helped pave the way for Indian content in China. Director Renny Harlin To Helm Chinese-Language Action Adventure Thriller, THE HANGING COFFIN
Acclaimating amply to the Asian aesthetic is noted Hollywood director Renny Harlin since relocating to Beijing, China in the last few years. With projects like Skiptrace and the recent production of Legend Of The Ancient Sword under his belt, Harlin is now readying his third Chinese-language film, The Hanging Coffin. The film was announced on Sunday last weekend at the top of the 20th installment of the Shanghai International Film Festival. Plot details are unclear while Harlin will direct from a script by The Shallows scribe Tony Jaswinski which will boast an “action adventure-cum-thriller featuring extreme sports, tomb raiding and mutant creatures” according to THR. The film hails from Shanghai Film Group and Shanghai New Wave Films and is expected to cast both Hollywood and Chinese talent in the coming months.

Chan stars as a flatfoot whose chance meeting with a con artist, played by Johnny Knoxville, forces the two to help bring down a major crime boss. Director Renny Harlin’s new globetrotting action comedy, Skiptrace is finally approaching this July among a slate of other Jackie Chan titles through 2017. In the meantime, the director is reportedly signed on to adapt the popular 2010 3D role-playing game, Legend Of The Ancient Sword with Alibaba Pictures. That footage you will get to see in the trailer above which outlines some of lead actor and action star Jackie Chan’s memorable titles, including Police Story and CZ12. At any rate, the full trailer’s availability marks the latest step in the elongated campaign for the film’s promotion following what would have been its release last year before being ultimately pushed back. SKIPTRACE Lands U.S. Distribution
At least four Jackie Chan films await big screen traction as of this year so far. Renny Harlin’s globetrotting action comedy Skiptrace has been the most lingering since its postponed China/HK release late last year and a date is still pending. For now, Chan fans in the U.S. can rest their woes with word among the trades that Saban Films will be releasing the film in theaters sometime in late summer or the proceeding Fall season. Jay Longino and Ben David Grabinski wrote the script which sees Chan playing a Hong Kong detective and an American gambler whose paths cross in the wake of a ten year investigation into a notorious crimeboss. With all that action star Jackie Chan is involved in these days, it’s easy and rather forgiveable to forget that his latest globetrotting action comedy, Skiptrace, still hasn’t seen a release.
