Wrapped reportedly as of last month, filmmaker Ric Roman Waugh’s (Greenland, Angel Has Fallen, Shot Caller) new action thriller, Kandahar, has a pair of photos currently circulating online, two of which you can view above. The film marks a rare opportunity for a Hollywood production shoot in Saudi Arabia, billed as one of the first big-budgeted studio titles to shoot in the region. Indeed, Millenium Media will ‘fall’ even further with a fourth installment into their Fallen franchise with Greenland star Gerard Butler headlining Night Has Fallen. The actor will also reteam with Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh back at the helm with Robert Mark Kamen penning the script. Butler will also produce with Les Weldon, Yariv Lerner and Alan Siegel, with Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, Millennium Media president Jeffrey Greenstein and Jonathan Yunger exec producing. The film will shoot at Millennium Media’s Nu Boyana Studios in Sofia, Bulgaria and throughout Europe, according to the report. Director Ric Roman Waugh’s new disaster survival epic, Greenland, is instead resolving toward home release status, according to a company press release issued on Thursday by ErosSTX Global Corporation. The Gerard Butler action adventure will debut on HBO, and then stream on HBO Max in the U.S. in early 2021, following a domestic release on Premium Video On-Demand (PVOD) beginning October 13. The film had been previously set to release in the summer before pushing to last month last month, only to pull its planned theatrical release as the pandemic crisis continued to affect theatrical exhibitors’ ability to open. Gerard Butler will soon be back to blow some more shit up once again with his Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh for Kandahar. The film aims to continue “the oeuvre of production powerhouse Thunder Road (John Wick and Sicario franchises) in bringing high intensity action to character-based stories.” The move marks the latest update for Thunder Road Films who acquired the hot screenplay back in 2016, written by Waugh and former military intelligence officer Mitchell LaFortune, the latter whose experiences at the Defense Intelligence Agency in Afghanistan at the time of the Snowden leaks from 2013 onward, serve as the basis for the project. Last weekend saw big news out of Berlin with actor Gerard Butler set to star in upcoming disaster pic, Greenland. STXinternational is repping the film intermatonally for buyers in Berlin and releasing in the UK. Production in Toronto is currently slated for May with the actor set to reteam with director Ric Roman Waugh, both whom are currently in talks. Greenland hails from Thunder Road and Anton, with Butler leading the tale about one family’s fight for survival in the face of a cataclysmic natural disaster. Producing the film is Thunder Road’s Films Basil Iwanyk (A Star is Born, Sicario, John Wick) who developed the project with Butler and Alan Siegel via their G-BASE banner. Anton is fully financing with Anton’s Sébastien Raybaud and Harold van Lier exec producing. Bold Films just presented its latest teaser poster for the upcoming crime thriller, Shot Caller, for which we now have word of its new home this week at Saban Films according to Deadline. Directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Snitch) from his own script, the film sees Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game Of Thrones) leading the tale of a prison gangster fresh out from behind bars only to be forced back into the underworld by his superiors in lieu of a a major crime with a brutal rival gang on the streets of Southern California. Joining Coster-Waldau is actress Lake Bell and actor Jon Bernthal with Emory Cohen (Brooklyn), Omari Hardwick (Power), and Benjamin Bratt rounding out the cast.
