Excitement looms over the upcoming development and impending production of director Roy Chow‘s upcoming film, Rise Of A Legend. In recent weeks, martial arts actor and icon Sammo Hung‘s was attached to play the role of the villain opposite the legendary kung fu hero Wong Fei-Hung, along with actor Wong Cho-lam as Wong’s disciple, in addition to Max Zhang, Biran Jing and Feng Jia Yi as part of the cast to join director Chow and action director Corey Yuen-Kwai.
Asian Movie Pulse has reported via Filmbiz.Asia that director Roy Chow will begin filming his latest action adventure film, Rise Of The Legend, as early as Tuesday with action director Corey Yuen designing the sequences. The update comes as the anticipation looms over who will play the iconic lead role of the late, legendary martial arts master and healer, Wong Fei-Hung, whose life has been told and immortalized in multiple versions of TV and film over the past century.
The film was made public in a previous report two weeks ago with Bill Kong producing, and True Legend and Fearless scribe Christine To Chi-Long providing the screenplay, detailing the story of Master Wong’s earlier life. It was also announced that Unbeatable stars Nick Cheung and Eddie Peng, and The Legend Is Born: Ip Man star Dennis To Yu-Hang were among those tapped for the lead role.
Twitchfilm also confirms that martial arts cinema legend Sammo Hung will return to the set along with actor and fellow Jackie Chan Presents: Wushu co-star Zhang Jin, sharing supporting roles along with The Guillotines co-star Jing Boran. Hung himself also shares a deep cinematoc lineage with the legendary master on film, having worked on several productions, namely on one in the theatrical depiction of Wong’s pupil, Lam Sai-Wing, in the 1983 film, The Magnificent Butcher, with the legendary actor Kwan Tak-Hing. Hung also shares his history with the late legendary asian cinema actor and action director Lau Kar-Leung, who was a fourth generation disciple of Master Wong. Master Leung passed away on June 25, 2013 at the age of 78.
Zhang Jin currently stars in Wong Kar-Wai’s latest biopictoral kung fu epic, The Grandmaster, which is set for a limited North American release next week as Martin Scorsese Presents: The Grandmaster, courtesy of The Weinstein Company.

Martial Arts Movie Junkie has reported via Film Business Asia that Bill Kong is aiming to reboot the story of Chinese kung fu Master Wong Fei-Hung. The film will be titled Rise Of A Legend, offsetting a China/Hong Kong co-production under’s Kong’s banner, Edko Films Ltd., joined by BDI Films Inc. and Irresistible Delta. Film Business Asia also reports that True Legend scribe and Fearless co-writer Christina To-Chi Long is signed to bring the story to life, revamping Rise Of A Legend as a story that will mainly focus its plot on a younger version of the kung fu master.
