Fox TV/London Night Studios Rob Cohen’s long-awaited Razor adaptation now has a star attached in the form of Emma Dumont. As Deadline’s Amanda N’Duka reported on Monday, the actress known for her latest portrayal as Polaris in Fox’s Marvel TV series, The Gifted, is set to star in the new film based on the work author and illustrator Everett Hartsoe, who created the character in 1991 upon launching London Night Studios prior to its shared prominence with The Crow comic book series between 1998 and 1999. The character will be given an updated look for the film centered on the Nicole Mitchell, a young woman who equips herself with amplified fighting prowess in addition to surgically bladed arms to go after the man who killed her LAPD detective father ten years after the trauma of witnessing his death. It’s been almost four years since news broke of The Fast And The Furious helmer Rob Cohen’s involvement of an upcoming comic book adaptation titled Razor. He’s kept busy since then with 2015 thriller The Boy Next Door, the upcoming Category 5 and recent announcement of Speedhunters for Jiaflix and 1905 Pictures, but now it appears Razor is back on the to-do list with word via The Wrap of its upcoming showing at the Marché du Film at Cannes courtesy of Number 11 Films. Often described as Point Break on wheels, director Rob Cohen’s fantastical street racing crime thriller, The Fast And The Furious was a $207 million dollar hit, and consequently, the subject of a now sprawling franchise with tie-in shortfilms and several home-bound re-releases celebrating the film’s long-running success. Director Rob Cohen was once the hopeful to direct a few films in the past three years, including a remake of Road House now set to shoot this April and Fast 8 which starts later this year. Both are now in the care of different directors, but this also leaves Cohen available for something else waiting in the wings for a Spring/Summer shoot. For this, we turn to Category 5 from representatives at Foresight Unlimited ahead of the European Film Market in Berlin next month. Not to be outdone by Netflix’s most recent titular accomplishment, Paramount Pictures is moving forward with China Film Group on a new 3D venture for Marco Polo, with a fantasy take on the story of the Venetian explorer. The film has been in the works for a few years now with scribe Stephanie Koff, and The Fast And The Furious and Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story helmer Rob Cohen directing as of last April and May, and now as of this week, the film is circling a lead. Earlier Saturday morning, I posted a status on Facebook about how I would love to see an original female character come to life in the form of Riddick. Well, considering that the following news doesn’t necessarily deal with an original property, it comes pretty close I guess. Several reports this weekend have been coming through the web indicating that Rob Cohen (The Fast And The Furious, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story) is bringing 1990’s comic book anti-heroine, Razor, to the big screen. The film is based on the work author and illustrator Everett Hartsoe, who created the character in 1991 upon launching London Night Studios, back in 1992.
