Ryukyu Battle Royale Gets International Treatmemt With The New Title, DANCING KARATE KID

The title, Dancing Karate Kid (a.k.a. Ryuku Battle Royale) doesn’t exactly ring a bell as a sequel to director Shunichi Nagasaki’s 2007 brutal karate action drama, Kuro-Obi, particularly when you look at the trailer, which looks more “Stephen Chowy” than anything else (something that Chow himself probably doesn’t mind). However, in some circles believe it or not, that is exactly how it is being pitched. Quite peculiar, especially if you’ve seen Kuro-Obi. New Details On RYUKYU BATTLE ROYALE

Back in early August, Film Combat Syndicate featured the new trailer for director Kishimoto Tsukasa‘s latest film, Ryukyu Battle Royale. This week, some new screening date details appeared online thanks in part to the viral spreading of the film’s official poster. I also did some more googling and google translating in the process, and discovered just a little bit more on the plot, which is said to involve actor Seung Wei portraying a character who travels all the way to Okinawa and leans how to dance from a master of Ryukyu. The dance also encompasses a formidable style of Karate that prepares him to face tough opppnents, including professional K-1fighter Shingo Koyasu and actor/martial artist and Kuro-Obi co-star Akito Yagi in a particular Battle that takes place at the film’s dojo, the Ryukyu karate school. This month we have a trailer for director Kishimoto Tsukasa‘s latest Okinawan martial arts action comedy, Ryukyu Battle Royale. Other than the film being slated for a possible October release, there is not much I can add to my press here for this particular film. However, there is a small cast list I can share, which includes stars Seung Wei, Shingo Koyasu and Koike Yui, along with actor and martial artist, Akihito Yagi, who is best known for his fierce performance in director Shunichi Nagasaki’s 2007 brutal karate action drama, Kuro-Obi. The choreography here looks great-it’s fast and energetic, and has a unique, comedic appeal, a little similar to that of Jay Chou’s latest comedy The RooFTop, only without the musical flair.
