CLEAN review – Adrien Brody Takes Out The Trash
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. A quiet loner with a dark and violent history finds redemption by protecting an innocent child unfairly targeted by criminals. Oh, you have? What if I told you this anti-hero leads a quiet life that they narrate while driving around at night working a blue-collar job? You get it! Yeah, wait, I see your point- it is pretty similar to other stuff. In this one though, the main character has an ominous nickname from their mysterious past and at one point they reveal a massive back tattoo that really illustrates (get it?) how tough they are right before they start taking out the bad guys in cold-blooded fashion? Oh right! I forgot about those movies where they already did that. You see this concept’s different though because it’s going to feature an actor not normally known for action. It’ll really be a […]
GHOST DOG: WAY OF THE SAMURAI Series Follow-Up On Deck For ‘Wu Tang: An American Saga’ Creators
Deadline‘s Nellie Andreeva is reporting on the development of 1999 hitman drama, Jim Jarmusch’s Ghost Dog: The Way Of The Samurai, as a one-hour series with Wu Tang: An American Saga duo RZA (Cut Throat City, The Man With The Iron Fists) and screenwriter Alex Tse (Superfly remake, Watchmen). The move comes following updates roughly around late 2017 and the following year as RZA was also involved with sequel efforts at the time, hailing a possible reunion with Jarmusch and title actor Forest Whitaker. “As a huge hip-hop head growing up, Wu-Tang resonated with me in particular, not only as a Chinese American, but as a geek because the music referenced kung fu movies, comic books, stuff that I was into,” said Tse. “Wu combined geek culture and street culture and made it all cool, promoting an accessibility that created one of the most diverse fan bases in the world. With Xen […]
CUT THROAT CITY Review: A Tale Of Hope At A Time Of Hopelessness
Being a fan of RZA’s work comes with certain qualifiers. His performances can be hit or miss, but there’s no question the man knows how to tell a driven story. His latest is already on track to platform and streaming releases with Cut Throat City, which centers on the lives of four friends in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. One such individual is Blink (Shameik Moore), newly married and like his three closest friends and fellow residents of the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, struggling to survive in a city depleted of basic living essentials and law enforcement protection. After failing to land a secure job as an artist, Blink and his friends devise a job that unfortunately involves seeking the counsel of his own brother in law, Lorenzo “Cousin” Bass (T.I.), and the ensuing robbery of a local casino. Tragedy strikes the group and forces them on the […]

A GHOST DOG Sequel Is Already In Development; Whitaker And Jarmusch Reportedly Involved
Looking at Jim Jarmusch’s seventh narrative film effort, Ghost Dog: The Way Of The Samurai, you would be forgiven for believing that to be the end of the story. Leave it to news as of last week citing that Jarmusch is reportedly reuniting with actor Forest Whitaker to take on a sequel apparently written and ready to go from scribes, Dallas Jackson and musician and noted musician and producer RZA. “Jim Jarmusch, my good buddy, and Forest Whitaker, have both signed on with me and another writer named Dallas Jackson, to executive produce another Ghost Dog. And we already have something written. So maybe Ghost Dog will make its way back to the silver screen, or small screen.” The exclusive at Birth.Movies.Death. from Monday also cites this as a possible move toward a streamed series and notes that both Jarmusch and Whitaker haven’t spoken on the project. Moreover it hasn’t been publicly confirmed if […]

Screener Review: AWOL-72 (2015)

That project is still in full bloom as we speak, while his latest film, AWOL-72 is now heading for a release this month in the U.S. and the U.K., and certainly serves its purpose for the R-rated action film crowd. With just three days to get out of the country with the woman he loves and their child on the way, he faces a few misadventures before he can steer clear of danger, including hillbilly human traffickers, crooked cops, two relentless detectives, and assassins who will stop at nothing to find him and kill him. Watch The Full Teaser Trailer For THE MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS 2: THE STING OF THE SCORPION
It’s reasonable to believe there was plenty more that could have been had actor, musician, debut director and kung fu cinema enthusiast, RZA succeeded with critical and commercial appeal in the 2012 martial arts fantasy, The Man With The Iron Fists. Unfortunately, box office expectations fell short with some largely critical responses, although it appears Universal Pictures still found there to be some appeal for RZA‘s vision for a follow-up of sorts. Well, after being teased with twenty seconds of it in the past week, that vision has since arrived in full with a new teaser for The Man With The Iron Fists 2: The Sting Of The Scoripion, from Michel de Ruyter and The Condemned 2 helmer Roel Reine. The plot isn’t yet fully known, although Impact reports a small nugget of the story, based on a script by RZA and John Jarrell, that details the re-emergence of RZA‘s […]
