BARELY LETHAL Heads To DVD & Digital HD Next Month. Watch The Trailer!
I honestly didn’t expect director Kyle Newman‘s latest fish-out-of-water action comedy, Barely Lethal, to be so obscure in the past year or more. Thankfully though, the film isn’t too far off from its forthcoming DVD/Blu-Ray and Digital releases next month, with actress Hailee Steinfeld starring as a young, highly trained spy on a whimsical quest of self-discovery on what it’s like to be a “normal” teenage girl.
BARELY LETHAL Takes Aim With A New Trailer And A Pair Of Release Dates
A 16-year-old international assassin yearning for a “normal” adolescence fakes her own death and enrolls as a senior in a suburban high school. She quickly learns that being popular can be more painful than getting water-boarded.
New Line To Reboot SHAFT
It’s been more than forty years since actor Richard Roundtree made blaxploitation history in the 1971 film, Shaft, centered on a badass New York detective who infiltrates the city’s criminal underworld to help free a mob boss’s daughter. Directed by Gordon Parks, the film’s success spawned two more films while briefly extending its reign to television, accompanied by the award-winning sounds of Isaac Hayes’s chart-topping signature theme song for the franchise at the time. The film also succeed into a non-linear pseudo-remake in 2000 with actor Samuel L. Jackson starring, in which Roundtree himself made a cameo.
So now what? Well, the word from The Wrap is that a reboot is now underway with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis (Predator, Predators, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) producing for New Line. There’s no word yet on how the studio will plan to reboot the new movie whether through its 70’s or a more contemporary take like John Singleton fifteen years ago. In my opinion, a seventies setting would look real awesome and fitting for a proper reboot of such a classic with the right director and crew on board. As for who could star in the title role, there are quite a few who come to mind. I’d name names but, you guys have the floor.
QUESTION: Which names would you like considered to take the role as Shaft in the new film? Comment below or on our Facebook page!

THE HATEFUL EIGHT Gets Back On Track For Winter Shoot
Director Quentin Tarantino is currently in the middle of a second rewrite with a third rewrite on the way for the forthcoming production of his new western, The Hateful Eight. The news of the film’s return to production comes after controversy arose with the leak of Tarantino‘s script through Gawker, which led to two lawsuits – one in January which was dismissed by a judge in April, followed by an amended complaint on May 1.
Last month, with the film on the backburner at the time, Tarantino decided to team up with non-profit organization, Film Independent, to showcase a stage reading of the very script that would have likely been used were it not for Gawker’s leak. Now, it seems Tarantino fans will have something awesome to look forward to at the movies when the cameras start rolling (hopefully on Cinemascope 70mm as previously planned) in Wyoming this November.
Actor Christopher Waltz will not be joining Tarantino for the film, which currently has actresses Zoë Bell and Amber Tamblyn, and actors Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, Kurt Russell, James Remar and Walt Goggins.
As for developments regarding Tarantino’s 2012 Civil War-era love letter to spaghetti western blaxploitation, Django Unchained, Tarantino stirred things up at Cannes last week with mention of applying some unused material for the initial film to a possible 4-part miniseries. Or something, and one could only hope.
