Variety is reporting that actress Scarlett Johansson has officially signed on to play the lead role in the forthcoming live-action adaptation of author Shirow Masumane’s highly acclaimed 1989 cyberpunk manga, Ghost In The Shell, from Dreamworks. Johansson was in talks as recently as last October after The Wolf Of Wall Street and Suicide Squad co-star Margot Robbie left. Based on a script by William Wheeler, Johansson will play a semi-human cybernetically enhanced counter terrorist in a future world where society’s fixation on technological advancements have made it possible for most people to hack their way into virtually anything, anywhere, opening doors to all sorts of intrigue and corruption on a massive scale. In the weeks since it was announced that The Wolf Of Wall Street co-star, actress Margot Robbie was up for the main role in director Rupert Sanders‘ live-action foray into Shirow Masamune’s popular 1989 manga, Ghost In The Shell, the usual assortment of blowhard netizens commented with their usual skepticism behind a non-Asian actress portraying a relatively Asian role. This opinionated approach has often been highlit in social media, potentially drumming up sentiments pointed toward racism in Hollywood as some may feel that Asians and minorities alike are still getting the short end of the stick, and quite frankly, they’re not completely wrong. Director Luc Besson‘s latest cerebral sci-fi action thriller, Lucy is getting its day in theaters this Friday. Clearly Besson enjoyed sharing the set with actress Scarlett Johansson in the title role, and he sure shows it in the latest two B-roll clips from the set of the film now online, along with an interview clip. On a more personal note, I have to say how awesome a treat it is knowing someone I met personally worked on this film, particularly my friend, stuntman Anthony Pho who appears briefly on a wire-rig in the first embed (4:20-4:40), and accordingly in the film. I met the guy last year in NYC and he’s too cool for words. Yeah, I’m giddy. Sue me. Check out the videos below and buy your tickets wherever tickets are sold!

Hey you, action fan. Guess what? Writer and director Luc Besson‘s forthcoming sci-fi action thriller, Lucy, is getting a kick-ass R-rating. And in a world where PG-13 movies (some good, and some needlessly rated as so) are domimating the conversation, it’s good to see that a portion of action film fans who love a good old-fashioned, grown-up R-rated movie haven’t been forgotten. Ten years after developing a film conceptualized around neurology, director Luc Besson has finally realized that concept from its embryotic stages in the form of his latest sci-fi action thriller Lucy. Footage from the film has already earned the interest of fans by way of Wondercon 2014 last month, in addition to first trailer, featuring Marvel leading lady, actress Scarlett Johansson in Besson‘s latest contribution to the action genre, preferably adhering to his usual knack for strong female figures in his films. “I’m interested in opposites,” he said. “We always portray the man as big and strong. ‘Hasta la Vista, Baby.’ The women is always in the background in distress. Marvel’s The Avengers 1 and 2 and Captain America 2 leading lady, actress Scarlett Johansson will be delivering her own brand of telekinetic, metahumanoid ass-kickery when she appears front and center in French action auteur Luc Besson‘s new sci-fi thriller, Lucy. And this week, we have a new trailer that shares all of the glorious action that awaits fans later this year following the exclusive first screenshot of the film courtesy of EW, and previous reports of the film’s exclusive footage screening at CinemaCon last month. Johansson stars as the titular character, a woman living in Taipei, Taiwan forced to work as a drug mule when the mysterious drug suddenly leaks into her body, giving her unbelievable superhuman powers of mind and body, and much more. This week, Marvel fans are getting tons and tons of new poster art and conceptual work offering earlier glimpses of the upcoming release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Fans also got some buzz with a few spoiler-worthy details now made public regarding the film’s post credits scenes with the film’s function as a tie-in to Marvel’s sequel superhero thriller, The Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which comes out next year. And today, we also have a new character featurette for actress Scarlett Johansson who plays Black Widow which you can check out below, just above an earlier featurette for actor Chris Evans who leads in the new film. Marvel fans got a better glimpse at actors Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie in recent weeks with new posters for the upcoming release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The film continued its promotional campaign this month with the release of an extended TV spot, which you can view below Thursday’s brand new four-minute preview/trailer video for the film ahead of its April 4, 2014 release. The film is also one several that will showcase new footage for ABC’s upcoming March 18 one-hour special, Marvel Studios: Assembling A Universe, along with Marvel’s Guardian Of The Galaxy and next year’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Marvel has unveiled its new sneak peek trailer for the upcoming superhero adventure follow-up, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, in addition to some new Cap2 eye candy this month with several character posters which you can now view below courtesy of Yahoo featuring Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Redford and Sebastian Stan. In addition, the same report from Yahoo also introduced several quotes from its lead actor from their set visit last year, including some information that the film will showcase a more “deadlier” and “dangerous” Captain America than seen in the previous film, with “grisly, and impactful” fights, and even compairing the improvements to the video game. “Has anyone played the Captain America video game?”, he says. “I love it, and I don’t like video games.
