MANHUNT: Solstice To Roll Cameras For ‘Shield Of Straw’ Remake Later This Year

It was back in 2015 that a remake of Takashi Miike’s 2013 crime thriller, Shield Of Straw, was reported for development with Chris Weitz (About A Boy, The Golden Compass) set to produce through his Depth Of Field. Nippon Television and Anew are now joining in the efforts with word that production is now being housed at Solstice Studios, the same company currently in tow with action thriller, Split Second, after the company launched last October. Shield Of Straw is based on author Kazuhiro Kiuchi’s 2004 Kodansha crime novel of the same name. Japanese Crime Pic, SHIELD OF STRAW Gets The English-Language Remake Treatment

There is not a lot of love lost for director Miike Takashi’s 2013 thriller, Shield Of Straw, based on author Kiuchi Kazuhiro’s 2004 Kodansha crime novel of the same name. Osawa Takao and Matsushima Nanako led the cast with actor Fujiwara Tatsuya central to the film’s premise about a team of Fukuoka detectives who come under fire from swarms of vigilantes when a vengeful billionaire puts a meaty contract out on a Tokyo-bound convoy transporting a murder suspect. Made long prior to Miike’s own professed promise of a return to formula with this year’s Yakuza Apocalypse, Shield Of Straw was nearly panned by critics and fell to a mixture of cheers and louder jeers upon its Cannes premiere. Poster And Trailer For SHIELD OF STRAW

A new poster has gone viral this week for the upcoming Japan April 26, 2013 premiere of the new Takashi Miike film from Warner Bros. Japan, Shield Of Straw. The film is executive produced Seiji Okuda, Hiroyoshi Koiwai, produced by Misako Saka, Maeda Shigeji, and written by Tamio Hayashi, based on a 2004 crime novel by Kazuhiro Kiuchi. It stars Takao Osawa (Sky High, Goemon) and Nanako Matsushima (The Ring) as detectives from the Fukuoka Prefectural Police who are hired to protect a murder suspect played by Tatsuya Fujiwara (Battle Royale) when he discovers a 1 billion yen bounty on his head by the victim’s grandfather, a powerful figure in the financial world.
