VALENTINE: Shout! Falls In Love With Indonesian Superhero Adaptation Starring Estelle Linden

A glimpse at some of the EFM buzz titles published this week at Screendaily are aloft with some excting offerings. Indonesian superhero thriller, Valentine is no exception as obscure as the film has been since having its release held back for more than a year prior to its short-lived theatrical run in November of 2017. Whatever the case may be now, the film at least gained a footing in the market scene when UK international sales outfit, Carnaby, acquired the rights last May. For the longest time I wondered just what in the sixth circle of hell happened with the adaptation of Aswin MC Siregar’s superheroine comic, Valentine. It’s anyone’s guess as far as I know beyond the post production process seeing as how the film started its release campaign in 2015 but, the film is finally out now and playing in local theaters, host to local TV actress Estelle Linden who underwent a year of versatile martial arts training for the lead role. With the rise of Indonesian action cinema as of late, it’s become evermore clear that superhero films are the market to tap into. Executive producer Sarjono Sustrisno (Guardian) and his team at Skylar Pictures learned this lesson well prior to founding Skylar Comics in 2013 with a slate of superhero franchises of its own, including the 2014 launch of female-centric comic book heroine, Valentine. Indonesia's Skylar Pictures Bring All-Female Action To The Big Screen in GUARDIAN

Electrifying Southeast Asia’s action film industry, Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans isn’t the only genius working behind the camera to create action packed entertainment for audiences. As the Jakarta Globe reports, the people over at South Jakarta-based Skylar Pictures are currently in the middle of their latest attempt at a blockbuster martial arts action picture titled Guardian. The film is headlined by a cast that boasts a strong female action presence led by Indonesian actresses Dominique Diyose and Belinda Camesi, who play a mother on the run with her daughter as she trains her for the day they must fight for their lives against an evil mafia boss, whose wife also sets out seeking retribution after wrongfully serving ten years in prison for his crimes.
