ULTRAMAN: Tsuburaya, Fields Take The Epic Saga To The Big Screen With A 3D-CG Manga Adaptation In 2019

It’s amazing to see that the Ultraman franchise has stood the test of time for more than half a century. Its ability to revamp itself between its televised variations is certainly a plus along with Shogakukan’s manga launch as of 2011 among others.

That succession now continues on a path to 3D CG-animated release in 2019 from Fields Corporation and Ultraman’s production mothership, Tsuburaya Productions Co., Ltd. Kamiyama Kenji (Ghost In The Shell: SAC) and Aramaki Shinji (Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars) are pairing up at the helm with Production I.G. (who also have a new Ghost In The Shell series in the works) and Sola Digital Arts producing.

Where the original series chronicled the endeavors of Hayata Shin, the deceased aviator/scientist who revives and serves host of our intergalactic hero alongside the Scientific Special Search Party against supernatural threats to Earth, the new film will follow with revelations in which Hayata’s teenage son, Shinjiro, learns he’s genetically inherited abilities that now live on for a new, metallic-suited incarnation of our hero.

The film will take its cues from the manga, created by Shimizu Eiichi and Shimoguchi Tomohiro, which sold more than 2.6 million copies in Japan and is currently available in the U.S. from VIZ Media. The film will also reportedly be Aramaki’s first segue into motion-capture per the film’s creative vision with Kamiyama lending his weight to the project.

With updates pending, Tsuburaya and Fields Corporation have since presented an enlivening teaser announcement to stir the hype. Take a look below with more from Sci-Fi Japan.
