A LEGEND is now available on Digital, Blu-Ray and DVD from Well Go USA
If you’d have asked me “Shaun, what sequel do you think Jackie Chan will make next?” I would have answered with “Another Police Story” or “Are we finally getting Rush Hour 3?” I did NOT see Jackie making a sequel to his less-than-stellar 2005 trip-through-time film, The Myth. Alas, it’s 2024 and here we are. Jackie returns to Chinese big screens on July 7th with A LEGEND, a collaboration with long-time friend and frequent Director, Stanley Tong. Distribution Workshop has the international rights and has the official synopsis as: A LEGEND sees Professor Chen, an archaeology expert, notice that the texture on the artifacts discovered by his students during a glacier expedition, is strikingly similar to a jade pendant he had seen in his dreams. The pendant is connecting the realm of dreams to reality. Filled with curiosity, Chen leads a research team on a journey deep into the Glacier […]
Distribution Workshop is on hand at the Marche du Film repping world sales on A Legend, the latest $50M sequel fervor reuniting director Stanley Tong with actor Jackie Chan. Bits of news from around the web have all but confirmed its existence with set photos currently circulating, while news out of Cannes sorts of officiates things, in addition to key sales art which you can view at the bottom. Professor Chen, an archaeology expert, notices that the texture on the artifacts discovered by his students during a glacier expedition is strikingly similar to a jade pendant he had seen in his dreams. It seems as that the pendant is connecting the realm of dreams to reality. Filled with curiosity, Professor Chen leads the research team on a journey deep into the Glacier Temple, in search of the truth behind his dreams, embarking on a fantastical adventure together. A Legend marks […]
It’s been about thirty years or so since a screening of Chang Hsin-yan’s 1982 Jet Li starrer, Shaolin Temple, had a definitive impact on a young and inspired Wang Baoqiang (Kung Fu Killer, Detective Chinatown 3). The actor himself, bred into martial arts at the age of six before his own temple training a few years later, talks a bit of this in the first teaser now online for The Shaolin Temple: Legend Of Debao. Directed by Stanley Tong (Jackie Chan’s First Strike, Vanguard), the film is reportedly set to launch IQIYI’s super movie channel as a Premium Video on Demand (PVoD) release beginning on February 12 – in time to kick off China’s Spring Festival, according to the Global Times. The move signals a business model proven to work since last year’s PVoD release of Kenji Tanigaki’s Donnie Yen action comedy, Enter The Fat Dragon, amid theater closures due […]
I love that some people can handle a good headbutt a little more than others in Stanley Tong’s latest, Vanguard. It’s a nifty little point of humor amid what looks to be an explosive action thriller that amps up the stunt caliber just enough to make Jackie Chan and the cast look good without anyone getting seriously injured. Big guns and fast fists and feet arise in this little endeavor which also stars Yang Yang, actress Miya Muqi and actor Allen Ai in a story about a covert international security agency going up against a powerful terrorist organization that finds itself as the last, best hope for an accountant marked for death by terrorists. Check out the teaser above and stay tuned for more info!
According to Jackie Chan France after sifting through mixed reports, the actor and action star is moving forward with director Stanley Tong once again for their latest pairing, Vanguard. The report forwarded the photo you see just above with Chan joined by the JC Stunt Team, along with young comedian Yang Yang, and Chan’s co-star for Tong’s KungFu Yoga, actress Miya Muqi. Vanguard centers on an international security team hired to protect a businessman and his daughter from a terrorist organization. Also joining the cast according to the report are Kung Fu Jungle actor Wang Baoqiang and celebrated actress Zhang Ziyi – that latter which reads as more of a rumor according to @AsianFilmStrike who forwarded the news. Vangaurd will be the sixth collaboration between Chan and Tong after KungFu Yoga, and in the years since Chan hit America big crossing over with Rumble In The Bronx, Police Story 3: […]
*This contest has expired. Director Stanley Tong’s Jackie Chan headliner, Kung Fu Yoga, proved to be a continued challenge for some critics and fans. Some themselves enjoyed and I did as well as something of an improvement in recent years for the celebrated action hero. The film is available on VoD as we speak while folks waiting for physical media will be happy to have their opportunity to own a Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack when store shelves open on August 8…so, there’s that… AND, then there’s our latest giveaway we’re launching this week through August 11. International action-comedy icon Jackie Chan (Rush Hour franchise, Railroad Tigers) is an Indiana Jones-style scholar hunting Indian treasure in the adventure-comedy KUNG FU YOGA, available on digital June 20 and on Blu-ray™ and DVD August 8 from Well Go USA Entertainment. Chan reunites with director Stanley Tong (Rumble in the Bronx, Supercop) for this fast-paced escapade that follows a professor […]
Really, it’s almost as if Jackie Chan is sort of just checking off his bucket list for this one. That’s the feeling that I got while watching through to the end the celebrated action star’s latest, Kung Fu Yoga from director Stanley Tong, and in parallel, I can’t really complain as much. I got a little tired of some of the more goofier stuff Chan was doing lately, particularly with CZ12 which Tong produced and so it’s pretty rewarding four years later to see these two back together. Granted, the film is still sort of goofy in certain instances – one example is when our main man meets actress Disha Patani’s role for the first time. The woman is beautiful as all hell, but there’s absolutely no attempt at subtlety here as Chan gazes onward with celestial melody as if the heavens peeled back the clouds open to allow the […]
Well Go USA put good word out to its loyal subscribers and adoring Jackie Chan fans, making official the January 27 release of his latest film, Kung Fu Yoga from director Stanley Tong. This, on the heels of opening this weekend’s Railroad Tigers by director Ding Sheng should make January a great month to be a Chan fan. SYNOPSIS: Jack (Jackie Chan), a world-renowned archaeology professor, and his team set out on a grand quest to locate the lost ancient Indian treasure of Magadha when they are ambushed by a team of mercenaries and left for dead. Using his vast knowledge of history and kung fu, Jack leads his team on a race around the world to beat the mercenaries to the treasure and prevent an ancient culture from being lost forever. Lay Zhang, Aarif Rahman and Ileana D’Cruz also star with Sonu Sood starring as the principle villain. Next […]
Oscar-winning action royalty Jackie Chan’s workload throughout last year is certain to keep the aged-yet-nimble and active auteur on our radar a bit in 2017. The latest example of this is best highlit by his recent pairing with director Stanely Tong following their work on films like Rumble In The Bronx and The Myth, and for this, we get Kung Fu Yoga which bodes as another similarly CZ12-ish globetrotter with lush scenery, epic views, and of course, the usual dose of action and comedy crazy signature of Chan filmlore. SYNOPSIS: Chinese archeology professor Jack teams up with beautiful Indian professor Ashmita and assistant Kyra to locate lost Magadha treasure. In a Tibetan ice cave, they find the remains of the royal army that had vanished together with the treasure, only to be ambushed by Randall, the descendent of a rebel army leader. When they free themselves, their next stop is […]
Got a formula? Stick to it. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Certainly this is how action star Jackie Chan and many of his fans may feel about his movies and I can certainly understand. That said, I can’t really say I’m surprised and impressed anymore by a lot of what I see, except for whatever stands out the most in a trailer for any Jackie Chan film. That said, the first trailer for Stanley Tong’s Kung Fu Yoga sold me just on the wackiness of it all, carsick lions riding shotgun and what have you. That, plus whatever Chan has in store for the action sequences here may serve well for the average Chan fan and so in that respect, I personally hope to be entertained at the very least. The obligatory handsome male supporting roles and beautiful actresses to help fill in the blanks, Eric Tsang as […]
Bigger hasn’t always been better, but that’s a matter of opinion as much of a gamble as it is for Hong Kong action staples Stanley Tong and Guinesss world record holder Jackie Chan. Teaming up for their newest epic, Kung Fu Yoga, pitting Chan as an archeologist among a small team of archeologists against the descendant of a rebel army leader with a worldly treasure at stake. An adventure ensues from Tibet and Dubai to India, hailing with intrigue, the usual plot twists, and the obligatory signature action and comedy stylings fitting of a Jackie Chan movie. You’ll see all that and more in the first official trailer finally making the rounds, which also shows Jackie Chan being pursued by a horde of villains, and with an angry lion riding in the backseat… Yes, a lion. The film opens in January with Chan joined by Aarif Rahman, Yixing Zhang, Guoli […]
Manga creator and author Hoji Tsukasa’s popular 1985 Weekly Shonen Jump publication, City Hunter, remained prominent in the years that followed, from print to anime, live-action TV and film. Perhaps most prolific iteration might be director Wong Jing’s 1993 full-scale spectacle fronted by action star Jackie Chan, one prone to many a viral video snippet of the star in a Chun Li outfit in the past decade in case you’re reading this and your memory starts jogging. The property still lives on these days, and so now it appears that Hong Kong director Stanley Tong will lead the charge for a new live-action film. Huang Xioaming (The White-Haired Witch Of Lunar Kingdom, Hollywood Adventures) is the first to be added to the cast, nabbed for the starring role of Saeba Ryo, a skilled gunman with a penchant for the ladies and helps solve dangerous problems through his private detective agency. […]
High profile action star Jackie Chan is not exactly easy to keep low key, so it’s no surprise to anyone paying attention that he and the cast and crew of the new action comedy, Kung Fu Yoga, have been on hand in Dubai for a while now. However, what’s finally been made clear is exactly where filming will take place, according to a memo sent out to guest at the Atlantis, The Palm Resort & Hotel which partly reads as follows: “We are very excited to be taking part in the filming of an epic new Kung Fu movie set for release in 2016. We would therefore like to warn you that filming will take place throughout the resort from September 28 to October 2015. “Whilst the majority of the resort will be unaffected, we have put in place a number of temporary measures in order to minimise the disruption […]
Certainly, martial arts and yoga share distinct similarities in fitness and philosophy aside from what makes the two stand out. But then again, it may have been only a matter of time before someone decided to come along to present an authentic feature film that ultimately dabbles with both systems of exercise. The question, of course, is how this will be done? ~ Well, leave it to the productive results of a newly establiahed film co-production deal between India and China back in September which now brings word that international action superstar Jackie Chan, far and away from any hint at retirement and now boarding the new action comedy, Kung Fu Yoga. In a new report from The Hollywood Reporter via City On Fire, Viacom18 Motion Pictures India has signed a letter of intent stating the goal for the next three months to finalize the details of the film with […]
