The pressure was on for director J.J. Abrams in the months leading up to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and lo and behold, the efforts have been met with praise, and a gross thusfar of well over $2 billion dollars globally in ticket sales. As for the film, well…things happened, people died and Rey herself, played by actress Daisy Ridley, ended up with lightsaber skills of her own thus bringing a new heroine into the mix (despite initially being shortchanged her own toy in her likeness). Alas, the bar has been set for the new trilogy which now on par for a tie-in this December, Rian Johnson’s sequel a year thereafter and others to come, and so now we welcome, naturally, a home release of Abrams’s own film scheduled for the first week of April. We are now two weeks into the release of J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens and there’s no kidding among anyone even before today who has stated this as the biggest movie in the world, even amid some early skepticism about the film’s box office results. On Sunday in a move that was nothing short of an obvious truth, news broke that the new movie has earned a global estimate of $286.8 million globally ($153.5 million domestically and $133.3 million overseas) to officially hit $1.090 billion in 12 days, essentially beating out Universal Pictures’s Jurassic World which did it in 13. It’s almost silly that we still have more trailers and TV spots circulating for J.J. Abrams’s latest movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which opens in less than a week. The film pretty much sold itself on its most recent trailer – even to the tune of $50 million dollars in advanced ticket sales already in the can, thus attributing to just how nototiously competitive tickets for these event-films can get. Forget the TV spots if you will, lest you spoil yourself with too much footage what with a month left before the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The promotion team is launching a campaign for select winners to win four tickets to see an early premiere and you learn more about it at the official non-profit charity platform, Omaze.com, current home of the “Force For Change” campaign. In the meantime, if you love Han Solo, chances are you’ll be catching the forthcoming spin-off movie already in the works for its 2018 release. Right about now you’re on pins and needles if you’ve been pining to see J.J. Abrams’s latest contribution to George Lucas’s legacy, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s okay, and very much forgivable seeing as how the film isn’t due for another 35 days or so, with exception to the lucky bastards looking toward screenings just a few days before then; Speaking of, the word is that a terminally ill man and Star Wars superfan by the name of Daniel Fleetwood barely has a month or so to live and with any luck, in addition to endorsements from the cast, Walt Disney Pictures will oblige. There’s no question about it. J.J. Abrams’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens is probably going to break the box office as much as it already broke the internet on Monday. I have no doubts here in any regard though I can imagine Disney and Lucasfilm are just eagerly waiting to start counting the money. For now, we’re counting views and tonight will probably be a huge night for sci-fi nerds only just discovering Monday Night Football upon the release of the new trailer, doing some sure ratings justice for ESPN. Speaking of, you can now check it out below following yesterday’s poster reveal, and purchase your Star Wars marathon and single tickets where and when available. Oh, and enjoy the rest of the game if you haven’t already DVR’d it.

Tomorrow night marks the latest trailer launch for the upcoming sci-fi event which also coincides with ticket sales for the concurrent Star Wars Marathon, showcasing at the following venues listed at StarWars.com. For this, we also get a look at two new bits of poster art which you can view below. The new trailer will air on Monday, October 19 during Monday Night Football at 8:00pm EST/9:00pm PST. Yes, we know there’s been an awakening. And yes, we’ve felt it…or whatever else anyone of us might be feeling aside from it in similar capacity. What we also know is actor John Boyega will be wielding a badass lightsaber in pure Jedi fashion as Finn opposite Adam Driver in the role of Kylo Ren who, judging by blurbs from around the web, either may or may not be a Sith. At any rate, Star Wars: The Force Awakens looks like an early box-office Christmas present for Disney and Lucasfilm. If you’re a Star Wars fan, the new official teaser for J.J. Abrams‘s Star Wars: The Force Awakens is exactly the best thing you’ve seen today. Forget about the debates you may have had about the new lightsaber design and the look of the stormtroopers and such. This is Star Wars, and it is exactly what you know you’ll be seeing this December. The second teaser for this, the seventh film in a new trilogy, unveiled for a panel at Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California which wraps this Sunday.
