Ready Player One helmer Steven Spielberg is preparing to full-on enter comic book movie territory as of Tuesday. DC is announcing Blackhawk, partnering Warner Bros. Pictures and Amblin Entertainment for a live-action adaptation of the 1941 Quality Comics publication from creators Will Eisner, along with Bob Powell and Chuck Cuidera. In the world of comics, Blackhawk is a wartime adventure series focusing on the titular Blackhawk, who commanded a squadron of ace pilots also known as the Blackhawks or the Blackhawk Squadron. The squadron would battle the Axis powers, as well as more fantastic super-villains and war machines, such as the memorable shark planes, which could operate in water as well as in the air. While the team debuted in 1941 in the heart of comics’ Golden Age, they’ve also been adapted to the modern era as a part of The New 52 and have spawned a well-known DC heroine, […]

Photo: EW Reactions were largely positive when fans of Ernest Cline’s 2011 bestseller, Ready Player One, learned that the film was heading for the big screen. Needless to say in the wake of a brand new Comic-Con trailer debut, expectations are reasonably held high with director Steven Spielberg at the helm, and Cline and screenwriter Zak Penn adapting the source material in slick and energizing fashion. I never saw Indiana Jones And The Crystal Skull. I’m curious about it though and still hope to when I get around it, although criticism of the film from friends suggest I do the exact opposite as the earlier films were awesome all around. From Raiders Of The Lost Ark to Temple Of Doom and The Last Crusade, the Lucasfilm property has been a staple of action adventure filmlore and study for the last thirty years with actor Harrison Ford front and center. The set pieces are epic, the scripts are some of the most wonderfully written and Ford lends pure gravitas to a role that has become iconic at its core, and so the development of a fifth has been long in waiting with a revolving door of actors making headlines and nothing really being set in stone. That process is finally over. And with that reminder comes the […]
It’s been five years since Warner Bros. began developing an adaptation for author Ernest Cline’s award-winning bestseller novel, Ready Player One, with master filmmaker Steven Spielberg getting on board to direct back in March. Now, the studio has finalized a press release announcing an official release date for December 2017. There’s no plot yet, but readers familiar with the source material may have an idea about where it will go in sum; The book, published in 2011, takes place in dystopian future Oklahoma City where a young gamer named Wade Watts who, with the help of four rival players, battles a powerful and dangerous corporate plutocrat in search of several late-twentieth century clues and treasures in the ultimate race for a billion dollar prize and the fate of the virtual utopian world, OASIS, and the legacy of its late creator. The book became a worldwide phemomenon among readers since its […]
It’s gratifying to see Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks back together. Their latest pairing for Cold War thriller, Bridge Of Spies looks absolutely fantastic as another fish-out-of-water tale of espionage and intrigue and riddled with gems worthy of making this one a hit, and a source material closer to none other than American history at that? Yes, this one is likely to stir a conversation or two. SYNOPSIS: A dramatic thriller set against the backdrop of a series of historic events, DreamWorks Pictures/Fox 2000 Pictures’ “Bridge of Spies” tells the story of James Donovan, a Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible task to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. Screenwriters Matt Charman and Ethan Coen & Joel Coen have woven this remarkable experience in Donovan’s life into a story inspired by true […]
I’m not a gamer. Point in fact, the last time I owned a console was a Sega Genesis in the early 1990’s, so I won’t pretend to be at all familiar with the highly popukar sci-fi game Halo. However, as it stands, the game itself has been poised for sometime now to get its own live-action feature film for the past nine years, with the last known attempt to garner Elysium helmer Neill Blomkamp for its director. In the meantime, we did get a cool little webseries back in 2012 via Machinima Prime called Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, but since then, plans for the live-action film itself continue to sit in limbo. However, on Friday, the official word came that Xbox Entertainment Studios is currently heavy in talks to develop a potential TV series for Showtime, as well as Xbox Live for interactive viewers. The series has reportedly become […]
