HBO Max Head Signals End Of Original Content Production For Cinemax

A new report at Deadline on Wednesday cites HBO Max Chief Content Officer who told the crowd at this year’s Television Critics Association that Cinemax would not be producing any more original content. The word is also that original shows already on Cinemax would not be carried over to the new SVOD service which officially announced part of its slate and pricing late last year. Set in 1870s San Francisco, Warrior debuted last April, shepherded by exec producers Shannon Lee and co-creators Justin Lin, Jonathan Tropper and Danielle Woodrow, and starring Andrew Koji (upcoming Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins) as a gifted fighter whose efforts to reunite with his long lost sister find him deep in San Francisco’s Tong criminal underbelly as a Hop Wei hatchetman in order to survive. STRIKE BACK: China Film Co. And Taihang Ready New Patriotic Actioner For Fall Production

Fresh out of Cannes and continuing the string of Chinese patriotic thrills of late, a September start is in store for Strike Back, from China Film Group and Taihang Pictures. Arclight Films, home to such hits as Triple Threat, Wu Jing’s Wolf Warrior 2 and Donnie Yen’s S.P.L. and Special ID, is selling internationally and co-financing the new thriller to be shot in the deserts of Xinjiang, northwest China, and Hainan island in the south. The fact-based story focuses on two Chinese soldiers who decide to avenge the killing of their colleague by a terrorist. One, a young reservist, feels the need to prove that he has what it takes to join the special operations forces known as Skyhawks. I rarely get a lot of time for television most days. I do, however, try my best not to be too tedious when it comes to shows that get my attention in the best of ways – shows like the Sky/Cinemax series, Strike Back which ended with its fourth season just last summer.
