Toggle Original Series THE DRIVER Trailer Teases A Screaming Mad Sunny Pang And Fistfuls Of Vengeance
The fact that actor Sunny Pang (Headshot, The Night Comes For Us) is out there, giving the world hell as one of the baddest cinematic baddies who ever lived is something that truly warms my cockles. That he’s one of the coolest dudes I’ve known in real life is an absolute plus, on top of being a fan of his work, which brings me to the time I’ve spent since last year wondering just what the heck The Driver is.
KILL-FIST: Sunny Pang Action Thriller To Go Toe-To-Toe At 9th Cambodia International Film Festival
It’s been a long time since we last heard from Malaysian filmmaker James Lee who first came on our radar with an array of amazing short films. His career is undoubtedly inclusive with some terrific feature work, some of which include 2009’s Call Me If You Need Me and 2012 action comedy, The Collector – both featuring Singaporean import Sunny Pang.
FLY BY NIGHT: Don’t Miss The Official Trailer For Zahir Omar’s Celebrated Malaysian Crime Thriller
The clock is officially ticking with a Malaysia release now set for April 11 with Zahir Omar’s new crime thriller, Fly By Night. Reviews are already floating out and about and I can proudly add my own to the stack in insisting the film provenly delivers.
THE NIGHT COMES FOR US Teases A Killer Fated To Kill One Last Time In The Official Trailer!
If you’re like me, the past four years have probably proven to be one of the biggest waiting games you’ve ever played. It’s certainly been longer for acclaimed Mo’ Bro filmmaker, director Timo Tjahjanto since arduously birthing his concepts for The Night Comes For Us with the goal of bringing back The Raid actor Joe Taslim.
FLY BY NIGHT: Zahir Omar’s Crime Debut Deals In Law And Losses In The Official Trailer
In the weeks leading up to his world premiere at Busan, the official trailer for Zahir Omar’s Fly By Night arrived in riveting form. It’s an especially notable return fans following local Singaporean actor and action star Sunny Pang (Headshot) for his latest of a few Malaysian stint, here joined by Bronte Palare, Jack Tan, Ruby Yap and Frederick Lee – all lined up for Busan. Jeong Minah disseminates further:
THE NIGHT COMES FOR US, And With It, A New Look At Taslim, Uwais And Pang!
It certainly doesn’t feel like it’s been seven or eight years since news arose of upcoming neo-noir gangster thriller, The Night Comes For Us. Looking back though, it certainly hits you like a ton of bricks remembering that this film was supposed to take off back in 2014 at the very least.
FIRST LOOK: Meet The Kung Fu Killers In James Lee’s KILL-FIST
EXCLUSIVE: Independent filmmaker James Lee is well on the way with the new martial arts redemtpion thriller, Kill-Fist. Hailing a reunion for the director and his lead actor, Singaporean action favorite, recurring Code Of Law star Sunny Pang, the film further etches a mutual creative partnership for the two who’ve known each other for more than a decade in cinema.
“It was fun and great to work with him again after The Collector and Call If You Need Me.” says Lee who cites that as both were different films that served the purpose Kill-Fist aims to do once more in challenging Pang as an actor. “Indeed he had to do some preparations for the character tragic Zhang. Kill-Fist is kind of a refresher for both of us, we hope we can move to bigger projects after this.”
Pang, who serves up more brutal screentime in Gavin Lim’s own upcoming film, Diamond Dogs, is one of the two principal leads for Kill-Fist next to actor Alan Yun, both central to the story in the respectful roles of Zhang, an impecunious sales rep struggling with impending divorce amid fighting for custody of his daughter, and John, a pastor facing down his own financial woes as his wife lays ill from cancer. Their circumstances soon take hold as they’re lured into a deadly underground fight circuit where the victor wins a cash prize based on rank.

Lee divulged some details to Film Combat Syndicate about conceiving Kill-Fist – a film thematically centered on family and vengeance about his inspiration toward the project. I first caught up with Lee when I discovered a shortfiln project in 2014 called Second Life with burgeoning local TV star Michael Chan, and it was then that Lee showcased an understanding of shooting and directing action which immediately drew my own interest in learning more about his endeavors through his film banner, Doghouse 73 Pictures, through which Lee continues his agenda in autonomously producing and financing his new homage to a celebrated bygone era of action cinema.
“It was simply an idea to just make an no-nonsense martial arts action movie, like those in the 80s with titles like ‘Kill And Kill Again’.” says Lee. “With focus on the families of the characters, I was inspired to write and design a story that will legitimize the action look instead of bringing action just for the sake of action. The two mutually co-exist and so the story will still play an inherent, important part in the film.”
Filming wrapped over the weekend following a brisk photography period. It was actually pretty surprising which makes me a lot more curious about some of Lee’s work which I haven’t gotten around to catching, but it’s also usually the case for an independent project such as Kill-Fist, with things like budget constraints and cutting certain creative corners to make things work. There were definitely some hurdles in the mix for fight scene prep as well, which led to some of the fight sequencing being designed on the spot.
Koe Yeet in “Kill-Fist”
“The biggest hurdles were the fight and action scenes totaling about ten scenes, with Sunny himself in eight of them,” says Lee. “It was really a demanding shoot for all of us, and so we didn’t have ample pre-production time to complete the choreography, so five of the scenes were choreographed and improvised on set.”
The film also signaled another collaborative reunion with Malaysian local, actor, stuntman and fight choreographer Lau Chee Hong who worked on a number of Lee’s projects through his own brand at Low Angle Productions. A few peculiar promo stills began releasing online for the film which echo and otherwise confirm Lee’s own expressed interest in introducing stylish Kung Fu fighting techniques for each character, with Pang’s role taking on that of centuries-old Praying Mantis.
“I envisioned a modern day kung-fu fight thriller pitting traditional styles against each other.” says Lee, who added that closer attention was needee for the more BJJ-oriented Marcio Sebsam, best known for his towering villainous role in Asun Mawardi’s 2011 thriller, Mortal Enemies (a.k.a. Pirate Brothers) and is set to star in female-led thriller, Duality. “We did not use many grappling or ground work as they’re actually harder to design compared to stand up striking techniques. So Chee Hong had to choreograph five of the major fights in a period of over a month. We trained and met up every Saturday to do the choreography with his team when available. It was truly an indie effort.”.

The search for a distributor comes next on the agenda prior to film festival notoriety for Kill-Fist, which ought to make for good movement for Pang after making waves in 2016 in Toronto and Texas for Iko Uwais thriller, Headshot. Award-winning director of photography Tan Teck Zee lensed Kill-Fist which also stars actresses Koe Yeet and Pearlly Chua, and is produced by Kenny Gan (KL24: Zombies).
DIAMOND DOGS: Sunny Pang Taps Into His Primal Instincts In The First Official Trailer
More than a decade after earning Best Director acclaim for 2005 shortfilm, Subtitle, director Gavin Lim has since begun paving the way with his feature debut upon returning to the Singapore International Film Festival later this month. His new feature debut, Diamond Dogs, has hit the web with a splashy and violent new look at the upcoming small-budgeted action thriller headlined by none other than Singaporean action star Sunny Pang who has already won in-roads with global audiences for his imposing gravitas opposite Iko Uwais in Mo’ Bros action thriller, Headshot.
A stage three cancer diagnosis leaves deaf and mute Johnny with little to lose when he is lured into a deadly underground social experiment. Funded by the uber rich, it pits fighters against one another in a test of animalistic aggression and adrenaline. Johnny’s fight to the top is brutal, fueled by the sole desire to exact revenge on the man who caged him in.
Action star Sunny Pang delivers up pulsating bouts of violence in director Gavin Lim’s gritty revenge flick, supported by scene-stealing turns from Mediacorp heartthrob Andie Chen, TV star Rosalind Pho and Japanese temptress Anri Okita. Peeling back the layers of the dark, bitter soul of man isn’t always pretty, but Lim infuses the shadowy instincts of Diamond Dogs with a relentless energy that will leave audiences breathless.
This won’t be Pang’s only outing going into 2018 with a small flurry of local TV dramas as well as further big screen aspirations as a film star now burgeoning with audiences on a far bigger scale. Seeing Headshot will give you an idea on how hard he goes with physical action and he never ceases to impress, and I’m certain that audiences he’s tended to including at Fantastic Fest in Austin and at Toronto’s TIFF would concur.
A little forewarning is needed as you might want to consider what you’re about to see as something of a NSFW trailer to watch in private. Otherwise, peep the trailer below to your heart’s content!
THE NIGHT COMES FOR US Wraps Principal Photography
Princpal photography wrapped on Tuesday for the filming leg of writer and director Timo Tjahjanto’s solo directorial debut, The Night Comes For Us. Production on the pic took a near-seven year evolution and finally went underway last December with scenes filmed in and around Jakarta, Indonesia for its seventy-six day shoot following its resurrection last August.
The film sees the return of actor Joe Taslim (Furious 6, Star Trek: Beyond) for his debut lead role as Ito, a gangland enforcer arriving from his stint at abroad and home to his crime family in Jakarta only to find himself caught in a web of turmoil, treachery and violent upheaval. Reuniting with Taslim is action star Iko Uwais following their appearance together in Gareth Evans’s The Raid (2011), while casting familars from Tjahjanto’s resume include the additions of Julie Estelle, Epy Kusandar, Sunny Pang, Zack Lee, Hannah Al Rashid and Shareefa Daanish with Abimanya Aryasatya and actress Salvita Decorte also starring.
Kimo Stamboel is also producing with XYZ Films’s Nick Spicer with Todd Brown serving as executive producer, and action sequences coordinated by Uwais along with Very Tri Yulisman. As far as the usual processes go, expect this one to start trickling out later this year and on through 2018 with exact premiere dates and releases pending.
Uwais, Estelle and Pang can currently be seen in the latest Mo Bros’ action-packed thriller, Headshot, now available on VoD from XYZ Films and Vertical Entertainment.
Stay tuned for further explicit details on The Night Comes For Us as it enters post-production!

There’s So Much New Footage In The U.S. Trailer For HEADSHOT…You’ve Been Warned!
With March 3 already set for the release of X-Men spin-off Wolverine finale, Logan, hardcore R-rated moviegoing types are now more than welcome to set the date for a double feature if they so choose, specifically for those who’ve been pining for the release of Iko Uwais headliner, Headshot from Vertical Entertainment and XYZ Films.
To be frank though, their latest trailer is out and I myself have all but avoided seeing any more new footage until now, and I feel like I’ve utterly failed and spoiled myself to no end. I might just go and down a whole two liter bottle of Pepsi and fuck my kidneys up to finish myself off because this is awful… not the movie judging by Alex Chung’s awesome review among others, of course, but me breaking my own abstinence here…
Ugh.
SYNOPSIS:
HEADSHOT centers on a mysterious young man who, after months in a coma from a gunshot wound to the head, is nursed back to health by a young student-doctor, Ailin. Realizing that the man has lost his memory and identity, the two quickly grow closer, not realizing that behind their momentary peace lays danger. Soon their lives collide with a gang of dangerous criminals led by an enigmatic crime lord—and with every violent confrontation, his memory brings him closer to a dark truth as the lethal personality awakening within him starts to reveal who he really is.
Avoid the trailer if the earlier footage already has you sold. Otherwise, share my misery and see it below at your own peril. I’ll still see the film, for sure, but I honestly didn’t need to see so much new shit here…
Yes, I’m mad.
Killers helmers Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel direct with Uwais joined by Chelsea Islan, Julie Estelle and Sunny Pang.
Enjoy!
The Final Trailer For HEADSHOT Relishes In Brooding And Brutality
I’m already sold on the new Mo Bros thriller, Headshot, going into the new year. Nonetheless, the film is out now in Indonesia, accompanied by a third, final trailer to help pull in the masses. I love the marketing push for this kind of film and I certainly hope we will see more martial arts films step up to the plate in the same fashion.
Iko Uwais stars as a wounded amnesiac forced to reckon with his past when the life of the nurse who kept him in her care hangs in the balance. Also starring are the beautiful and talented Chelsea Islan and Julie Estelle, and Singaporean action star, actor Sunny Pang. Release dates for other territories remain pending.
RONIN AT LARGE: An Interview With Sunny Pang
Sunny Pang: This year has been good to me, all thanks to ‘Mo brothers for giving me to play a leading role in Headshot as Lee! I couldn’t thank Timo Tjahjanto enough for giving me this opportunity, and I also feel fortunate to work with Iko Uwais and his team, and the other cast members as well! Aint it cool! [laughs]
