Japan’s economic crisis in the mid-1990’s proved quite useful in setting up a working formula for writer and director Ishii Takashi’s 1995 crime thriller, Gonin, starring Sato Koichi and legendary actor Kitano Takeshi in a violent tale of one man’s consequential attempt to rob the Yakuza with the help of four desperate cohorts.
