The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are getting a new feature-length CG-animated reincarnation from Nickelodeon and Point Grey Pictures. Production is underway with Jeff Rowe (Gravity Falls, Connected, Disenchantment) set to direct from a script by Brendan O’Brian (Neighbors, Sorority Rising, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates). Plot details are hidden somewhere in a NYC sewer but fans have long endured the fanfare since its birth in 1984 as a Mirage Comics publication, about a quartet of turtles and a rat, transmogrified by a mysterious chemical and raised in New York City’s underground, trained in the ancient art of the ninja to become the city’s secret heroes. The film, yet to be titled, marks the Nickelodeon Animation Studio’s first-ever CG theatrical production. Point Grey Pictures’ Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver are producing, with Ramsey Naito, Nickelodeon EVP, Animation Production and Development, overseeing, and Josh Fagen overseeing for Point Grey. Love it or hate it, the Michael Bay produced live-action hybrid martial arts spectacle, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is getting a sequel with the possible inclusion of a few extra characters from the franchise. Such characters may (or may not) include urban vigilante Casey Jones, or Dimension X creatures Bebop and Rocksteady; It’s pretty early, so details are scant. However, Bay is returning with his creative team to put together the new film with no official word yet on whether or not Jonathan Liebesman will return to direct for its June 3, 2016 date. While further updates there are still pending, the film is now being loaded with chunks of extras and other gems for its forthcoming home release between November and December, all packaged courtesy of Paramount. Blu-Ray.com has some extra photos to check out with an official press release detailing all that will be included. Cowabunga! HOLLYWOOD–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The […]
The reviews may be mixed, but director Jonathan Liebesman‘s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was still a box office success last month while neck-and-neck with Guardians Of The Galaxy. As such, producer Michael Bay is now spearheading production of the sequel for its June 3, 2016 release, with some possible additional laurels that could invite other characters from the original TV series. In the meantime, the current film is getting an IMAX theatrical one-week re-run beginning September 12. Check out the official announcement below, and be sure to visit the official IMAX website for more info and upcoming theatrical listings, as well as enter for your chance to win free IMAX tickets and other prizes. SYNOPSIS: Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April O’Neil and her cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan. REVIEW: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was my first big screen experience following director Steve Barron’s 1990 classic. While it does fall short of the expectations most people evidently had for the film, the film does have some really great highs to make up for some of its lows. The story re-observes the origins of where the turtles and lab-rat-turned-life-sized ninjitsu master, Splinter, came from. This point of origin, in conjunction with the “Legend Of The Yokai” (see tags […]
We’re less than a month away from the forthcoming release of director Jonathan Liebesman‘s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon are pressing hard the week with new gems to promote the film. They’ve already pushed a slate of TV spots, trailers and posters – including the latest official one-sheet with all the heroes front and center, as well as an upload of the hip-hop track, “Shell Shocked” from the film’s official sountrack. On Tuesday, fans were also offered even more explosive new footage that provides further insight into the turtles and the nature of their abilities, as well as the usual spectacular martial arts ninja action with our heroic tortoises, master Splinter, and The Shredder. Paramount Pictures already has multitudes of character posters, as well as a few international posters floating around online for director Jonathan Liebesman‘s upcoming film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This week though, we finally get a brand new one-sheet featuring all four main characters which you can now check out below, courtesy of ComingSoon.net. The promotional campaign for the new film has been getting some pretty immense attention, particularly with a 17-minute clip of a behind-the-scenes program hosted by co-stars Megan Fox and Will Arnett last week. This week’s brand new poster also marks the continuation of that push with a brand new TV spot, an upload of an original song from the film’s soundtrack courtesy of Atlanta Records, and the launch of the official website for Legend Of The Yokai, an international exhibit with pictorals and a video which explores the historic, supernatural legacy of the Turtles’ heroism. Check out […]
I don’t normally push a lot of TV spots, but I’m compelled a little bit here when it comes to the new one being pushed for the upcoming release of director Jonathan Liebesman‘s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Of course, opinions are still floating around regarding how the CG turtles look, but the optimism is increasing little by little from the talk I’ve been hearing, and the most recent trailer is what is contributing to some of that newfound optimism. Still, the film awaits its first slate of reviews, and if they are any indication by then, hopefully the film will perform exceptionally enough for a sequel if necessary. And I would love to see an epic sequel take this newly rebooted screen franchise to the next level. Check out the TV spot below, in addition to a new viral video, and click here to see which turtle YOU are! Teenage […]
Motion posters seem to be a thing nowadays, and it appears that Paramount Pictures is jumping on the bandwagon with a number of its own movies, including the latest from director Jonathan Liebesman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s actually the fourth slate of posters they’re rolling out for the new film and its pretty interesting. The motion posters feature shots from the film, with the final shot formulating the images previously seen on the second slate of posters just above. Check them all out in motion below! Stuntman, fight coordinator and choreographer Don Thai Theerathada has been at it professionally for the last twenty-one years, having recently completed work for the upcoming releases of the Leitch/Stahelski co-directorial debut, John Wick, the August 8 release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and this weekend’s release of Transformers: Age Of Extinction. Some of his career highlights can now be seen in a newly cut reel on the official YouTube channel for California-based stunt training studio, 87Eleven, with several cool highlights of his work in recent years, including The Expendables 2 (2012), and alongside award-winning premiere stunt coordinator J.J. Perry for Bullet To The Head (2013) and Haywire (2012). There are other goodies in between, and needless to say, I can’t wait to see what else he adds to his resume. Surprises are aboud! Take a look!
Aside from anything revelant to the etymology of the character from the original comics by creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, director Jonathan Liebesman‘s forthcoming iteration of the classic villain in his new film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, will center on actor William Fichtner‘s portrayal of Eric Sachs, a doctor who apparently worked with reporter April O’Neil’s father to, as he puts it, “create heroes”. Evidently at some point, every hero needs a villain, and somehow Sachs becomes the monstrous incarnation we now see in the new photo above, and in addition to a brand new trailer and character posters as of this week. While some people may still be recovering from the fallout over the first trailer footage several weeks ago for director Jonathan Liebesman‘s upcoming release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there are others who stand somewhat hopeful that the new 2014 remake will deliver, an opinion shared most recently by co-creator Kevin Eastman who was quoted last week in a piece over at CBR about the new Michael Bay-produced movie. “It’s been a four, almost five-year journey to bring the next “Turtles” movie to life since the time we pitched it,” he says. “I know everybody is like, “Oh, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, he’s gonna ruin it! He’s gonna destroy it!” But everyone I have encountered has been nothing more than incredibly sincere to try and bring the Turtles back in a way that’s new, fresh and exciting, but with total respect to everything that’s come before. I’ve read […]
Well that was pretty quick. After the latest airing of the initial teaser for Jonathan Liebesman‘s forthcoming big screen revisit of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the reaction has been well mixed, particularly when a reddit user inspired more dialogue after freeze-framing a few stills to make some comparative graphic corrections on the noses of the characters. Needless to say, however, that facial feature is less likely to change along with the recent casting of actors Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shahloub as the voices of characters Leonardo and Master Splinter, played physically by Pete Plosek and Danny Woodburn, respectively. On that note, I was really expecting a slightly longer wait for a full-length trailer before seeing any television spots-maybe that’s just me. My guess is that Paramount wants to show just a little new footage as a sign of post-production progress in light of any criticisms that may have come since […]
Comic book artist and author Peter Laird has a fairly approving view of what was recently shown in the first teaser for director Jonathan Liebesman‘s new live-action CG hybrid take on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Well, it’s a lot fairer than some criticisms I have read from superfans of the original comics, but I agree there wasn’t a lot to base a huge opinion on based on the teaser since it didn’t show a whole lot. What I am really looking forward to is a full trailer that shows us what we can expect in terms of the performamces, the action and over all delivery of the characters, including Shredder. Alas, that probably won’t be for a while longer. But the official Tumblr feed for the film does have some new posters available for the film which you can check out below featuring all four turtles and their resepective […]
Writer and director James DeMonaco‘s is cranking it up this summer for the forthcoming release of The Purge: Anarchy. Following up the success of the first film which released last year, the sequel now takes the battle to the streets of a not-too-distant future America where in order to sustain record crime lows and economic highs for the rest of the year, the government decriminalizes all crimes, allowing the nation one night of virtually complete lawlessness. All hell breaks loose, body counts ensue, and its every man, woman and child for himself. And its the perfect setup for a film franchise that has something pretty good going for itself, in my opinion. I enjoyed the first movie for its gritty delivery as an action-horror piece, and I believe this one is well on its way to a impressive second act. As noteworthy mention, both films bare the name of blockbuster […]
Recent years have illustrated a pretty big, criticism-dominant mixture of reactions by fans toward producer Michael Bay’s latest backing for director Jonathan Liebesman‘s new take on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And indeed, a lot has happened since the classic characters were initially brought to life in 1990 with a film that remains, for devout fans, the best of the entire original film trilogy. Nearly two decades later, and despite having to overcome a series of push-backs, script issues and fan rage regarding a leak of an original former draft that once saw the turtles as “aliens”, advancements in filmmaking technology through performance capture now grant filmgoers, our heroes are brought to life through a CGI-heavy reimagining that grants fans of the popular franchise a more inclusive, fresher and spectacular look for our heroes. In addition, recent reports also reveal what has been described as a slight revision of the […]
With Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick moving on from G.I. Joe: Retaliation to the waiting-in-limbo comic book adaptation of characters Deadpool and Venom, production for G.I. Joe 3 will bring screenwriter Evan Daugherty on board. The report from THR comes in roughly three months after director Jon M. Chu announced the film back in July with Retaliation co-stars Bruce Willis and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed to return, while a writer was still being “narrowed down”. G.I. Joe: Retaliation premiered on March 29, 2013, nine months after its release date in which Chu decided the film needed a “conscientious” 3D conversion. Evidently, Retaliation, and its predecessor, G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra, earned well over $600 million dollars at the box office despite the word of critics, with Rotten Tomatoes handing the first and second film a 34% and 28% rating, respectively. Daugherty‘s latest writing credits include the Rupert Sanders-directed […]
Comic Book Movie has some new set photos for directorJonathan Liebesman‘s upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, revealing a little bit of actor William Fichtner‘s “Eric Sachs” rendition of the character, Shredder in the film. A few other teaser photos were revealed illustrating a bit of the Turtles’ lair. Not much else to report here, accept that the film’s production has earned some positive support from eyewitness fans near the set, despite a little over a year of hefty criticisms from fans in the face of seemingly spontaneous changes to the storyline prior to the rewrite of the script. Both Bay and co-star Alan Ritchson have defended the film along with TMNT franchise co-creator Kevin Eastman. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stars Alan Ritchson, Pete Plozek, Noel Fischer and Jeremy Howard, with Megan Fox, Danny Woodburn, William Fichtner, Will Arnett and Whoopi Goldberg. The film is slated for a U.S. release […]
The creators behind the latest theatrical CG/live-action installation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sure took their time in finally letting everyone know that actor William Fichtner‘s character of “iconic stature” meant he is playing the Shredder. The announcement came back in May as updates were made regarding actress Megan Fox‘s role, that of the main Turtles’ cast, and actors Will Arnett and Danny Woodburn were included in the film. Today, ComingSoon.net has forwarded a quote from Fichtner’s latest interview with Huffington Post Canada while promoting his latest TV show, Crossing Lines. While talking about playing the Shredder, Fichtner says “…It is cool. It’s one of those things that came along where I thought, “Really? Let me think about this for a minute.” [Laughs] Then I was like, “Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey.” I’m very glad that it worked out, I’m really glad that I’m doing it.“ In the original […]
When it comes to anything controversial, people spin things and use the internet to solicit and certify mistruths that have a deeper impact on things. Such as the case with childhood favorite television and film franchises like the upcoming Michael Bay co-produced reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (formerly known as Ninja Turtles). And a year later, it seems there is still not enough Turtle Power in the world to prevent this much butthurt over a movie. Alas, here cometh Michael Bay, again, trying to explain things…AGAIN. In a statement from Moviefone forwarded by ComingSoon.net, Bay chose to set as much of the record straight regarding the production vision for the film: There was that quote saying that we’re making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We’re not…It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in […]
