THE DIVISION: Leitch To Direct Upcoming Ubisoft Film Adaptation For Netflix

Active developments toward a live-action adaptation of the hit Ubisoft game, The Division, have been stirring moreso since 2016 with the casting of actor Jake Gyllenhaal and with stunt action feature hitmaker David Leitch tapped to direct just last Spring. Going forward, the word is out with Netflix announcing its acquisition of the feature film that now sets screenwriter Rafe Judkins to put pen-to-paper on the project. Joining Gyllenhaal to star and produce will be actress Jessica Chastain who will partake in the same capacity. In the near future, a pandemic virus is spread via paper money on Black Friday, decimating the city of New York and killing millions. By Christmas, what’s left of society has descended into chaos. It’s been a rousing five years of entertainment following along with the efforts of actors Jean-Paul Ly and Law Plancel. From respective background credits on Green Street Hooligans 3 and Marvel’s Doctor Strange to officiating a film production partnership with 2015 short, Dead End, as well as on Jimmy Henderson’s award-winning action comedy, Jailbreak, the two have more than proven themselves to be the real deal. Tom Clancy’s THE DIVISION Sets David Leitch To Helm The Live-Action Game Adaptation

David Leitch appears to be on some good juju these days. Next month’s Deadpool 2 release now has a final trailer and in its wake as of Thursday, now reveals he’ll be directing actor Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain in Tom Clancy’s The Division, the hit game from Ubisoft. Gyllenhaal and Chastain were both added to the project which they are also producing through their own banners next to that of Leitch, and auspices at Ubisoft Motion Pictures. According to Justin Kroll’s exclusive at Variety, the plan is to start development this year following the Atomic Blonde helmer’s completion on the Fast saga spin-off with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Ubisoft Is Bringing TOM CLANCY'S THE DIVISION To The Big Screen With Jake Gyllenhaal Starring

It’s only been a few months since Ubisoft’s third-person shooter, Tom Clancy’s The Division, released on shelves to the tune of positive ratings up to $330 million dollars in sales. That’s a huge chunk of money, so it’s reasonable to believe Ubisoft sees enough potential in the property to turn it into a viable feature film with great prospects. Well, that’s exactly what they’re doing according to a report from Variety and with none other than Southpaw and Nightcrawler star Jake Gyllenhaal starring. The report states that a writer is currently being sought after to pen the script casting Gyllenhaal as an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, assigned to help rebuild its branch in New York City while investigating the nature of a smallpox outbreak and defending against criminal activity lurking in the background.
