Following last week’s updates, The Weinstein Company teased an announcement for Monday over the weekend pertaining to Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. That announcement has officially arrived with the roll out of two new announcement videos for its roadshow release of the new movie on Christmas Eve; The roadshow run will last two weeks on 100 screens in 44 markets which will overlap through the new year as the wide digital release commences on January 1 in all markets. Reportedly the recent red carpet premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight went without a hitch, with exception to a few glitches. The film is still poised for a 70mm roadshow rollout packaged with an intermission to boot, but it turns out that some theaters will embrace a different format of the 70mm package. Word has it that some theaters weren’t willing to tackle any potential losses to cover the expenses of a 70mm copy of the film, thus not seeing any value for ticket costs on top of the money being spent to retrofit specific theaters with the right projectors. Thus, with Tarantino’s 100-theater plan now reduced to 50, other theaters will be presenting what’s called a Digital Cinema Package to accomodate moviegoers otherwise interested in the 70mm roadshow experience. Director Quentin Tarantino can speak for himself in any regard, especially when it comes to filmmaking. Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Django Unchained and Resevoir Dogs are all alluring examples of just how impactful he is on set, which is why he’s still releavant to this day. Keep that in mind with the upcoming 70mm select release on Christmas for his newest gritty thriller, The Hateful Eight, having undergone quite a shift in scripting and structure following a leak last year that nearly endangered its production. Talk of retirement is what looms in the wake of what lies ahead for acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino‘s tenth film, The Hateful Eight. For this, you have to wonder just what it will all mean for you when the film releases later this year. If you know Tarantino’s work, by now you’ve probably fallen in love with either one or SEVERAL of his films, and I can only imagine how it will feel after the end credits myself.
