On Saturday, writer and director Gareth Evans took to Twitter to share a gritty new still from the upcoming film, The Raid 2: Berandal, but not until after answering just a few questions from his followers where he was kind enough to accept a brief inquiry from Film Combat Syndicate on the proximity of time between now and the production of the previously announced third film in the self-titled franchise. While acknowledging Fajar Yuskemal and Aria Prayogi as his music composers with Joe Trapanese for the film’s soundtrack and somewhat jokingly mentioning a three-figure bodycount, Evans says the following on the trilogy…
Tweet Quote:
“@ghuwevans: “@FCSyndicate: how soon will part 3 start filming after this?” I have a basic outline for part 3 – depends on how part 2 does, maybe 2017.”
The first teaser is already online while the film is currently in post production with a new full trailer to arrive online in January, as Evans prepares to helm the Lee “Lightining” Murray heist biodrama, Breaking The Bank, as well as executive producing the American remake of The Raid (2011) from a script by Out Of The Furnace co-scribe Brad Inglesby, and assisting the April/May filming of director Timo Tjahjanto’s The Night Comes For Us with actor Joe Taslim.
Produced by PT Merantau and XYZ Films, The Raid 2: Berandal stars Iko Uwais, Donny Alamsyah, Tio Pakusadewo, Arifin Putra, Alex Abbad, Roy Marten and returning villain/actor Yayan Ruhian, along with Marsha Timothy, Julie Estelle, Very Tri Yulisman, Cecep Arif Rahman, Oka Antara and Epy Kusandar, and Japanese actors Ryuhei Matsuda, Kenuchi Endo and Kazuki Kitamura.
Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions has multi-territorial distribution rights to the film with a North American release date to be set courtesy of Sony Pictures Classics and Stage 6 Films, following the film’s Indonesian domestic release in March.
