Meet The Bait, The Badass, The Sniper, The Leader And More In THE BIG 4 Official Trailer

Now only a matter of weeks until its release, Indonesian director fave Timo Tjahjanto’s newest action comedy, The Big 4, has a brand new official trailer to accomodate fans who’ve been long patient in the years they’ve regaled enjoying his past works. The most notable to date of course includes the elevated action and spectacle he’s introduced in 2018’s The Night Comes For Us and alongside co-helmer Kimo Stamboel for Headshot, and we’re definitely getting a few glimmers of it here with the cast in action. That leaves us with a roster led by actress Putri Marino who plays a by-the-book detective who finds herself teaming up with the four retired assassins – trained and mentored by her late father (played by Budi Ros) – in order to avenge his death. Rounding out the cast are Abimana Aryasatya, Lutesha, Arie Kriting, and Kristo Immanuel, along with Marthino Lio, Michelle Tahalea, […]

THE BIG 4 Team Up To Settle The Score In The Official Teaser Trailer For Timo Tjahjanto’s Latest!

You know something, I might be reading too much into it, but there’s at least one split-second shot in the footage above that has me believing we should expect at least one of our dreams to come true in the years since Timo Tjahjanto’s The Night Comes For Us. It’s speculative, frankly, but for now, the trailer for the hit Indonesian horror and action auteur’s newest venture now lands squarely in our sights this week for hitman comedy, The Big 4, which launches on Netflix beginning December 15. A by-the-book detective investigates the death of her father and follows a clue to a remote tropical island, only to find out his true identity as a leader of a group of assassins. Now hunted by his enemies, she has to team up with the crooks her father had trained – four retired, down-on-their-luck assassins itching to get back in the game. […]

THE BIG 4 Teases A Paradise To Die For In The First Poster

Try picking director Timo Tjahjanto’s brain from any distance about what he has in store and he’ll be about as cryptic as he wants. He can certainly afford it, especially after wowing thriller fans with hits like Killers and two installments of the May The Devil Take You franchise, as well as actioners Headshot and the ever pulsating The Night Comes For Us, and the same goes for what fans are hoping for with its spin-off, The Operator, and whatever you decide to take from this reply to a fan via Twitter. That, of course, leaves us with what he’s up to now with Netflix’s widely reported investment in Southeast Asian content, including Indonesia’s Tjahjanto who has since shared the first teaser poster for his latest action flick, The Big 4. Tjahjanto directs from a script he wrote with Johanna Wattimena, which centers on a dogged detective whose investigation into […]

THE BIG 4: Timo Tjahjanto’s Newest Action Crime Comedy Now Filming

Folks waiting with baited breath to learn just what director Timo Tjahjanto is working on since tearing it up on the screen with a slew off horrific action and suspense thriller in the last several years can now take a gander at the first unit still from his current production, The Big 4. The film is one of several projects revealed on Friday at Waktu Netflix Indonesia (Time for Netflix Indonesia), which includes a variety of action, sci-fi, comedy and drama within what’s been described as “its most ambitious slate yet.” A by-the-book detective investigates the death of her father and follows a clue to a remote tropical island, only to find out his true identity as a leader of a group of assassins. Now hunted by his enemies, she has to team up with the crooks her father had trained – four retired, down on their luck assassins itching […]

UNDER SIEGE Reboot From Timo Tjahjanto In The Works At Warner Bros.

Of all the properties you’d expect celebrated Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto to be attached to, you least expect it would be a reboot of Andrew Davis’s 1992 hit thriller, Under Siege. Alas, that now seems to be the case with none other than Kate scribe Umair Aleem penning the script for Warner Bros. The plan, according to Deadline‘s Anthony D’Alessandro, is to release the remake on HBO Max. There’s no word though if the film’s original star, Steven Seagal, would return to the table as former Navy SEAL-cum-cook Casey Ryback, but the film was definitely another page turner for action fans thirty years ago, along with its 1995 sequel (frankly it wouldn’t be a reboot if Ryback returned anyway, otherwise it would be categorized as a sequel, which this isn’t). Let’s face it though: I was a fan of Seagal until his career post-Half Past Dead as he resumed churning […]

New Line’s TRAIN TO BUSAN Remake Lands ‘The Night Comes For Us’ Director Timo Tjahjanto

A little over a few years after New Line landed the rights, the long-brewing remake of Yeon Sang-ho’s hit 2016 zombie survival thriller, Train To Busan, officially landed a director in Timo Tjahjanto. A fitting choice in the horror arena, Tjahjanto is best known for his work as one-half of the ‘Mo’ Brothers working alongside filmmaker Kimo Stamboel for hits such as Macabre and Killers, and back-to-back Chelsea Islan-led May The Devil Take You and its 2020 sequel. Tjahjanto eventually got bit by the action bug in time to arouse audiences with brutal and increasingly bloody action showcases like Headshot (2016) and the highly celebrated The Night Comes For Us (2018). Timo is directing the new incarnation from a script by Gary Dauberman, who is producing via Coin Operated; Also producing are Atomic Monster’s James Wan and Michael Clear (Mortal Kombat) and Gaumont’s Nicolas Atlan and Terry Kalagian, with Judson […]

Timo Tjahjanto Teases ‘Night Of The Operator’ With Fuzzy Photo Hype

Timo Tjahjanto, whose recent Netflix hit, The Night Comes For Us, proved to be a bloody, flesh-severing martial arts action affair of the highest order upon releasing back in October. The goal, of course and as always with the streaming service, is to get people to watch, and of course, Tjahjanto has certainly lended his voice to the cause. Mentions of a franchise have kept fans in waiting line with the director often vague-tweeting hints on character fan favorite, “The Operator”, played aptly by actress Julie Estelle (The Raid 2, Headshot, Foxtrot Six). Even going so far as earlier this month to spontaneously tweet “Night of The Operator.” in a March 4 post, to which screenwriter and author Ben Trebilcook replied “Mate….. you’re the opposite of Freddy, you’re not stirring nightmares, but my dreams!” As of this week, Tjahjanto kept the enigamtic fervor going in a post featuring a fuzzy […]

Timo Tjahjanto’s THE NIGHT COMES FOR US: A Story Of Frenetic Poetry

Orson Welles said of friendship that, through it, we get to create the illusion that we are not alone. He said of women that through them men become civilized. I wonder what he would have thought of The Night Comes For Us, a film that illustrates friendship (both its value and fragility) through a harsh, deconstructive lens, and presents a young girl as the catalyst for its protagonist’s quest to civilize himself, that is, to regain his civility after a career of criminality and murder. Ito, played by Joe Taslim, is the star of the picture, a gangland veteran from the streets of Jakarta who progressed from here to become an enforcer for the East Asian Triad. Ito, at the film’s opening, has experienced a sudden change of heart -or re-evaluation of his life- when met by the pleading eyes of a young girl (Asha Kenyeri Bermudez) who just witnessed […]

Timo Tjahjanto’s AFTER .11 Goes Out With A Bang In The Official Trailer

Provided you’ve been taking my advice on properly stalking director Timo Tjahjanto’s Instagram for all things relevant to The Operator, you might have also come actors The Night Comes For Us helmer’s teaser pics from a then-unnamed project. That project now has a title with After .11 marking The Night Comes For Us starring villainess, Dian Sastrowardoyo’s reunion with Tjahjanto. She stars here as Agent D, a secret agent whose latest situation finds her held captive and forced to choose between her mission, and her family. The news came within hours of Sastrowardoyo’s latest hire at BASE Productions in reunion with longtime friend Shanty Harmayn who produced the actress’s first key role in Whispering Sands (2001). The official trailer is out, as is some new artwork teasing an intriguing end to the action and thrills.I’m not too certain about the nature of After.11 in whether or not it’s a short […]

THE NIGHT COMES FOR US Teases A Killer Fated To Kill One Last Time In The Official Trailer!

If you’re like me, the past four years have probably proven to be one of the biggest waiting games you’ve ever played. It’s certainly been longer for acclaimed Mo’ Bro filmmaker, director Timo Tjahjanto since arduously birthing his concepts for The Night Comes For Us with the goal of bringing back The Raid actor Joe Taslim. There’s nothing else, really, to the matter apart from what else has already been said with respect to its stagnation in 2014. All we really know after all the waiting, depression and renewed hope is that I think we’re on the same page in expressing our collective euphoria since the first teaser clip arose ahead of the film’s premiere at Sitges. As such, we now have an official trailer that meets our needs from a preliminary standpoint. That we also saw an official poster with a release date also felt more than fruitful, but […]

THE NIGHT COMES FOR US Dawns A Stern New Photo From The Joe Taslim Actioner

Keeping certain of our attention through 2018 with the usual slow pacing of jewels for Timo Tjahjanto’s The Night Comes For Us, we have another still from the post production phase as its end inches closer. The film is Tjahjanto’s solo feature debut with actor and martial artist Joe Taslim since breaking out in supporting fashion with Gareth Evans’s The Raid (2011) and in Justin Lin’s Star Trek: Beyond (2016) for his first Hollywood endeavor. Taslim plays Ito, a gangland enforcer arriving from his stint at abroad and home to his crime family in Jakarta only to find himself caught in a web of turmoil, treachery and violent upheaval. Reuniting with Taslim is action star Iko Uwais following their appearance together in Gareth Evans’s The Raid, along with Uwais and Tjahjanto’s Headshot cast, actress Julie Estelle and actors Sunny Pang and Zack Lee, and with Epy Kusandar, Hannah Al Rashid and […]

RONIN AT LARGE: An Interview With Sunny Pang

Photo: Arnold Wells The latest Fall film festival premieres of the new ‘Mo Brothers amnesiac revenge thriller, Headshot, has already drawn waves of approval from most critics and fans able to attend film events in Texas, as well as in Busan and Sitges to name a few. The film also landed in Toronto before long where select cast members also intended the film’s Midnight Madness opener, including the film’s co-star, Sunny Pang who became known to me as early as 2012 by way of director James Lee’s action comedy, The Collector. Thankfully, friend and one of Canada’s best stuntmen, Alex Chung took to this year’s Toronto International Film Fest to screen Headshot for a review on our site. I also recommended it as a chance for him to meet Pang and the cast and unfortunately their meeting was too brief in the midst of the electricity in the room for them […]

THE NIGHT COMES FOR US Once Again!

Nearly two years have passed since news slowly and quietly broke of the shelving of the Joe Taslim-starring action vehicle, The Night Comes For Us, and the real reasons why remain unbeknownst to the public. The film was drawn on the hinges of the recent successes of Indonesian film hits like Gareth Evans’s Merantau, The Raid and The Raid 2, in addition to directing duo Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel’s Macabre and Killers, and as one of two genre films being planned by Merantau and XYZ Films. Thankfully and whatever the case may be this week, it appears that Tjahjanto’s forthcoming solo feature debut at the helm is officially back on track with word of a screenfighting and casting call just in the last 24 hours overseas in Indonesia via social media. The film, to be produced by Evans along with Maya Barack Evans and XYZ Films, and in what […]
