In pursuing how one goes about approaching alien invasion thrillers, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes helmer Rupert Wyatt has some seemingly fresh ideas. His newest, visceral new sci-fi thriller, Captive State, now has an official trailer for its upcoming release from Focus Features, offering an ample view into the seething millieu of an American city colonized by aliens, and established as a dictatorship. The PR campaign is also putting in the extra effort with this little jewel. Captive State, directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and starring John Goodman and Ashton Sanders, is a sci-fi thriller set in a Chicago neighborhood nearly a decade after it has been occupied by an extraterrestrial force. It was back in college that I became keen on what BMWFilms was achieving with its spate of shortfilms at the time in 2002. There were eight films dubbed The Hire, and with my most favorite being John Woo’s “Hostage” as much as I am a fan of The Woo. The series itself essentially led me to my appreciation for actor Clive Owen, star of the fantastic 2007 action hit, Shoot ‘Em Up, about a mysterious carrot-eating marksman who finds himself at the beckoncall of a hooker and her baby when they become the target of a seedy squad of mercenaries working for corrupt politicians and the gun manufacturers funding them.
