THE BOUNCER Review: John Ozuna Tangos With Romanian Gangsters In Masimiliano Cerchi’s Latest

I learned about actor and martial artist John Ozuna when I was covering some of director Rene Perez’s work back in 2018. What I didn’t know – at least until this draft – was that Ozuna is a Guinness World Record-holding martial artist on top of that, crowned for throwing well over seven-hundred punches in a minute, and clocking the world’s fastest martial arts punch at 43.3 miles per hour. These are all impressive feats to share with the niche, while Ozuna has since stepped up to the challenge of adding “screen actor” to his tradecraft with a number of credits to show for his efforts. Director Joshua Brandon’s new suspense thriller, Black Bags, is announcing an April 11 digital release from Vision Films. Angela Bourassa and Adam Pachter penned the script with Laura Vandervoort and Olesya Rulin starring, along with Drew Pollock and Ryan Fischer. The distributor is slating a North American VOD release for May 12 along with a TBA DVD rollout in early June. Vision Films’s latest endorsement of Nollywood cimema comes by way of writer/director Paul Apel Papel with the new military thriller, Eagle Wings. The film was shot entirely on location in Nigeria and is one of Vision’s emerging catalog from prolific filmmakers in the region. As insurgents overtake territories and kill civilians, the Nigerian Air Force is called in to bring peace to the area. Review: Brutal Environmental Drama, BLOOD & OIL, Digs Deep For Reverence And Resolve, But To What End?

Long-awaited since its heyday as Oloibiri, director Curtis Graham’s latest feature outing, Blood & Oil, has since come out of obscurity and onto a North American VoD multi-platform release from Vision Films. I don’t know the history of the production off the top of my head, so I’m just gonna go into my analysis here, and I definitely note this as a worthwhile viewing. Samantha Iwowo’s screenplay and Graham’s own cinematography lend a gritty, often harrowing and raw look into Blood & Oil; Several parts consequential war drama and other parts political thriller, the film toggles back-and-forth, frequenting black-and-white flashback sequences to depict the decades-long fallout from multi-national companies capitalizing on the siphoning of oil.
