I always get a little self-conscious about the big tentpole films, mainly because every other platform’s reviewed them and I’m usually on the last minute train catching up on either VOD or streaming. It is interesting, however, to see the reactions coming out on social media following the HBO Max release of The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz. Indeed, not every film is everyone’s cup of tea, although it is fascinating that some people didn’t enjoy this latest chapter from Warner Bros. Pictures’ DC adaptations as much as other folks like myself did. I think every film based on this property has been good, to their own degrees. Some have a stylish, albeit campy, comic book-ish flair like the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher-directed affairs of the 80s and 90s. Others have a much more visually leaner, socially-toned take like with director Christopher […]

It was in 2015 that Jonathan and Josh Baker made waves at SXSW with their Grand Jury nominated hit short, Bag Man. Fast forward three years later and the sibling duo now have a feature film production their wake with Kin, setting off a story much more layered in its focus on a young boy whose daunting discovery gives him greater power than he imagine… and by that, I mean a mean-ass B.F.G.! KIN, a pulse-pounding crime thriller with a sci-fi twist, is the story of an unexpected hero destined for greatness. Chased by a vengeful criminal (James Franco) and a gang of otherworldly soldiers, a recently released ex-con (Jack Reynor) and his adopted teenage brother (Myles Truitt) are forced to go on the run with a weapon of mysterious origin as their only protection. August 31 is the date for moviegoers courtesy of Lionsgate’s Summit shingle. Watch the incredible […]
Devil In My Ride helmer Gary Michael Schultz’s second directorial offering, Vincent N Roxxy, saw a small evolution before ultimately landing Emile Hirsch and Zoë Kravitz in their respective lead roles. Following its Tribeca premiere last month, Vertical Entertainment now has an official trailer online with a theatrical and digital release set for June 2. If hip-hop and rock-n-roll had a love child, she would be Roxxy (Zoë Kravitz), an inner city girl in trouble. Vincent (Emile Hirsch) is a consummate loner from small town America searching for meaning in his life that has become intertwined with dangerous people. One morning, these two lost souls meet when a vicious killer attacks Roxxy on the street in broad daylight before a crowd of witnesses. Vincent tries to save her, forcing Vincent and Roxxy to go on the run for their lives. They soon learn violence will follow them everywhere, even as […]

The short went on to become a Grand Jury nominated favorite last year at SXSW and much to the delight of its creators as well as the viewers who rightfully enjoyed it, and it’s pretty easy to see why. As such, that project has drawn its appeal as a workable sci-fi action picture now titled Kin for its advacement into feature film territory. Deadline reports the Baker duo will make their debut at the helm from a script by Daniel Casey which casts Transformers: Age Of Extinction co-star, actor Jack Reynor in the lead as a newly-released ex-con forced on the run with his younger brother, with a mysterious weapon of unknown origin as their only means of protection against a vengeful […]
