Mr. Six helmer Guan Hu’s recent follow-up, The Eight Hundred, had a great sales show at Cannes for Huayi Bros. CMC Pictures took on the explosive WWII epic to release in the U.S., Australia and New Zealand and will likely coincide with the film’s mainland Chinese release slated for July 5.
From the acclaimed filmmaker behind Mr. Six comes a riveting war epic. In 1937, eight hundred Chinese soldiers fight under siege from a warehouse in the middle of the Shanghai battlefield, completely surrounded by the Japanese army.
Billed as the first Chinese film to be shot with IMAX digital cameras, The Eight Hundred stars Operation Red Sea actor Zhang Yi and Chronicles Of The Ghostly Tribe actress Chen Yao with Huang Zhizhong (China 1911), Wang Qianyuan (Brotherhood Of Blades), and Jiang Wu (Wrath Of Silence).
Audiences will also be beholden to the film’s theme sung by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, and action sequences by Glenn Boswell (The Matrix) and Oscar-nominated VFX supervisor Tim Crosbie (X-Men: Days Of Future Past).
