THE FOGGY MOUNTAIN: Peter Pham’s Newest Martial Arts Thriller Takes To HKFilmart This Week

Arclight Films

Originally set to launch per its usual annual March date, the since-postponed Hong Kong Filmart is kicking off its two-day event on August 27 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).

Arriving just in time this week will be Arclight Films who is officially boarding international distribution rights (excluding Vietnam) for Phan Anh’s new martial arts thriller, The Foggy Mountain, starring Vietnamese-American actor and martial artist Peter Pham in his feature film lead debut.

The film is directed by Anh in co-operation with scriptwriter Ken Dinh, and centers on Phi (Peter Pham) who makes a living as a fighter and lives a simple and happy life with his beautiful wife named Lanh. However, after causing a big conflict with ruthless syndicate boss Ba Rau in a recent match, Phi sets out on a warpath quest for revenge of a wrongful death by venturing into the deep jungles of Foggy Mountain. Phi is reunited with his former student, Bang Tam, who now runs an orphanage. After discovering Phi is searching for him, Ba Rau’s gang kidnaps Bang Tam and the children. Phi must face the gang alone in order to save more innocent lives.

The Foggy Mountain also stars Vietnamese boxing champion Truong Dinh Hoang, and Thai martial arts superstar Simon Kook. Arclight Films will be screening and introducing the film to buyers at the upcoming Hong Kong Filmart.

The film is shot in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, a province known for its striking beauty, that serves as the film’s backdrop. The realism of the action-packed fight scenes is thanks to the expert consulting and performance of top worldwide martial artists Truong Dinh Hoang and Simon Kook. Truong Dinh Hoang is the winner of the WBA West Asia and Asia East belts in 2020. Simon Kook has forged a strong reputation as a leading stuntman in Asia performing in films including the blockbusters The Bodyguard, Scared, Mercury Man, and co-starred in Ip Man 3.

Pham, who’s been building up his credentials for the better part of the last ten years in an array of martial arts shortfilms and as a versatile specialist in Wing Chun and other styles, was featured in an interview during the summer’s virtual 2020 edition of Comic-Con hosted by Ric Meyers. The livestream held a presentation of Pham’s most recent action short, Mayhem, which is now exclusively available on Well Go USA’s premiere Asian cult cinema streaming app, Hi-YAH!.

“We are excited to board Foggy Mountain and to introduce it to buyers at Filmart. The film is visually mesmerizing, and the action-packed scenes have incredible realism thanks to the expertise of some of the biggest names in martial arts. When we were introduced to the project, we felt incredibly compelled to the story as it certainly has a universal appeal. Foggy Mountain will captivate audiences both interested in high-quality action films as well those looking for an inspirational and uplifting human story,” said Arclight chairman Gary Hamilton.

The Foggy Mountain is a PhanBros and Galaxy Studios production with Tran Ho Truc Duy as producer. Galaxy successfully released the film theatrically in its home country last month, received warmly by audiences, and proved to be Vietnam’s biggest foray into martial arts related film to date.
