THE GAMBIT: Michael Bisping Heads Cast As Cameras Roll In Alberta For New Action Thriller
Currently in production is action thriller The Gambit, from director Josh Wong (No Roads In, Growing Gold). Cameras are rolling for the next few weeks in the town of Cochrane, Alberta with actor and martial artist Michael Bisping (Den Of Thieves, Triple Threat) starring opposite Kim Coates (“Sons Of Anarchy”, Officer Downe).
The Gambit follows a deadly game of survival orchestrated by a sinister figure known as The Conductor (played by Kim Coates). Kidnapped contestants are forced to flee for their lives, pursued by assassins in a high-stakes, deadly chase.
Joining Bisping and Coates on screen are co-stars Yarine Pernia, Chad Rook, Milo Gibson, Skylar Park, Aleks Paunovic, and Michael Eklund. Local Magazine Cochrane Now’s Noel Edey has more on the Canadian shoot whose producer, Yas Taalat, describes the film as a cross between The Running Man, Hunger Games, and Squid Game.
“We were influenced by films like The Raid by Gareth Evans, starring Iko Uwais,” said Yas Taalat, one of the producers. “We’ve seen great action movies from the U.S., China, Japan, Indonesia, France—but not many from Canada. We want to make our mark, not just with action, but with martial arts in a way the world hasn’t seen from this country before. We want the world to be wowed.”
Also producing are Gabriel Napora, Costa Vassos, and Steven McMichael, with Murray Coleman and Peter Loubardeas exec producing. Stunt professional J.J. Park, whose credits include Hotstar series “Bad Cop”, Max series “The Last Of Us“, and Hulu’s Prey, is the film’s stunt coordinator.
The film is set to release some time later this year or early 2026.
