THE HATEFUL EIGHT Gets A Slight Change In Format, New General Release Date

Reportedly the recent red carpet premiere of Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight went without a hitch, with exception to a few glitches. The film is still poised for a 70mm roadshow rollout packaged with an intermission to boot, but it turns out that some theaters will embrace a different format of the 70mm package.

Word has it that some theaters weren’t willing to tackle any potential losses to cover the expenses of a 70mm copy of the film, thus not seeing any value for ticket costs on top of the money being spent to retrofit specific theaters with the right projectors. Thus, with Tarantino’s 100-theater plan now reduced to 50, other theaters will be presenting what’s called a Digital Cinema Package to accomodate moviegoers otherwise interested in the 70mm roadshow experience.

As such, next to the roadshow date still set for December 25, the general release is now set for New Years’ Day on January 1, granting an eight-day advance. The film, which stars Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Madsen, Tim Roth and more, is currently undergoing a meaty promotional campaign jammed with clips currently available online until its release.
