Two more weeks until the holidays! Have you guys laid out Christmas plans yet? I have, and if I’m fortunate then they’ll mostly include sleep.
Indeed, it’s another week and THAT means another installment of The Hit List, brimming with medleys of stunt and indie action talent from around the world. Rising action star Jean-Paul Ly (Jailbreak, upcoming Artemis Fowl) unveils his calling card with a new demo reel, followed by reels from Alexey Minaev, Milena Brewster, Ishigaki Shinji, Frank Alfano Jr., Alyson Pickett, Sebastian Andrade Heinatz, Drew Reade, Heidi Pascoe, Gene Freeman, Xanthia Marinelli, Ryan John, Wilson Sze, Camran Bostanabad, and Aaron Hakala.
Time to promote some projects and the first of which comes from our own Nicholas Ortiz with an exclusive look at three stills from the next installment of Power Rangers: Unworthy. The first episode from Kamen Ramen and Ortiz’s Deviant Children banner arrived back in August to huge acclaim at this year’s Power Morphicon, chronicling our heroes as they find themselves cornered once more into battle with the first Ranger known as The Arbiter. Jenna Garcia reprises her role as Kimberly next to the introduction of actress and stunt performer Angela Jordan as the Green Ranger.
Just beneath you’ll spot the initial artwork for Anthony Javier’s newest action short; The Kill-Switch. Javier directed, and shared scripting duties with co-star Gina Macri, and plans to have a local screening in Winnepeg before initiating a festival run.
Javier plays Santos, an ex-cop bent on revenge one year after surviving a near-fatal hit job that saw the murder of his death of his wife and child. The official trailer is also available in the playlist beneath, preceded by a trailer for Burned Out, featuring Stuart Williamson and Owen McRae, and directed by Craig McRae and Russ McCarroll.
Kyro Waveborne and Haga Akihiro go toe-to-toe for the first entry of our Fights And Films section, followed by a trio of Filmstro/Film Riot contest shorts featuring David Lavallee Jr.’s Payback, Elliot C. Rosen’s Ninja Roll and Josh Mabie’s Gold Rush. Following that, Leroy Nguyen breaks in Ron Suriyopas with a test fight at Rising Tiger Films, Reuben Langdon shares a fight concept for a short with Mark Musashi called Shifter, Grant Powell and his unit in South Africa showcase more pre-viz from their work on Thugs Of Hindostan, and Glen Michael and his gang of up-and-comers at Y.B. Action relish in the beatdowns with I Will Find You.
Courtesy of stunt performer Ashlee Fidow is a group practice skit lensed and assembled by Steven A. Davis, and next with Bryan Sloyer and Shai DeBroux in place of Batman and Catwoman for some more Telltale pre-viz stunts directed by Vlad Rimburg, David Neyts with his own spin on the zombie genre a la the Karate Kid with Zombie Killers, and Dian Sastrowardoyo (The Night Comes For Us) weighs in with what looks like a marketing campaign for Bukalapak by way of espionage/spy action and thrills from Timo Tjahjanto in After.11.
The aforementioned Mr. Sloyer’s second of two entries this week also offers us his newest action-packed dramatic short, Little Lion Girl with Ms. DeBroux leading the cast of action talents on hand. Last and far from least is Jeffrey Leslie with The Legend Of Kung Funk – technically flawed in a lot of areas among other setbacks in its delivery, though its presentation of Marco Urboydaanswer Johnson deems this one a worthwhile viewing following Robert Samuels’s Beast.
