THE YACHT: Voltage Nabs Rights For New Ruby Rose Action Thriller Ahead Of Cannes

Currently in post-production is Declan Whitebloom’s debut feature, The Yacht. The new action thriller starring Ruby Rose (The Doorman, Vanquish), Patrick Schwarzenegger (Daniel Isn’t Real, Echo Boomers) and Frank Grillo (Beyond Skyline, Boss Level) has been acquired by Voltage Pictures for international sales and will be presented to buyers at the upcoming Marché du film, which runs from June 21st through the 25th.

Saban Films will release the film in the United States.

Billed as a high-octane and tense action-thriller in the mold of Die Hard and Panic Room, The Yacht follows a tenacious and troubled young woman who inherits a luxury yacht from her estranged father and has to fight to survive when it gets hijacked by thieves. Unable to escape and trapped on the yacht at high seas, the prey becomes the hunter as she turns the tables on the intruders and takes matters into her own hands.

Scotty Bohnen (The Last Son), Danny Bohnen (She Walks the Woods) and Luis Da Silva, Jr. (Fast Five, The Devil Goes Down) round out the cast. Jib Polhemus, Michael Jefferson, Lowell Shapiro, Mike Dill, Ford Corbett, Nathan Klingher, Ryan Winterstern and Anthony Standberry are producing with Voltage’s Nicolas Chartier and President/COO Jonathan Deckter are exec producing, next to Vernon Davis, Henry Penzi and Adam Beasley.

“I was really drawn to the project initially because its such a great take on the modern thriller with a strong female lead, I was hooked,” said Whitebloom. “When Ruby Rose came on board – excuse the pun – she took the character of Bella to another level, bringing a real world vulnerability to the part that added so much.  Frank  and Patrick were also great collaborators, it was thrilling to work with those gents and see those characters leap off the page. Having always been a fan of the thriller genre it’s been a dream to bring this one to life.”

“Declan has assembled an all-star cast of renegade action stars to lead this pulse racing heist-thriller,” said Deckter. “No one kicks ass quite like the indominable Ruby Rose and Frank Grillo, and we saw Patrick’s genius firsthand when we handled sales on Daniel Isn’t Real.”

Rose starred in the Emmy Award-winning Netflix series “Orange is the New Black” and as Kate Kane in the CW’s “Batwoman”.  She was recently seen in SAS: Red Notice, and opposite Morgan Freeman in the Liongate film Vanquish. She can next be seen in the Liongate comedy 1UP.

Frank Grillo portrayed the fan-favorite villain, ‘Crossbones’, in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War which brought in well over a $1 billion globally at the box office, and is the face of Universal’s Purge franchise as Sergeant Leo Barnes in The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year, the latter which took in a global gross of $114.2 million and became the most successful chapter yet. Grillo also starred in China’s mega-hit Wolf Warrior II opposite Wu Jing and Celina Jade. The film broke numerous box office records, now holding the title of the most successful film ever released in China.

Schwarzenegger co-starred with Bella Thorne in the YA romance Midnight Sun, the critically acclaimed horror Daniel Isn’t Real and Netflix’s Moxie from Amy Poehler. He can next be seen in Amazon’s “The Terminal List”.
