TOKYO BURST Teaser Signals The Far Eastern Future Of Don Lee’s ‘The Roundup’ Franchise!
The first official teaser announcement for Tokyo Burst set sail online on Wednesday morning in Japan ahead of a summer 2026 release from Kadokawa and BY4M Studio. The film will mark an extension of The Roundup franchise which began with 2017’s The Outlaws, sparking a series of action-packed adventures starring Don Lee, and set in South Korea’s Chinatown district.
The current franchise up to now stands at four titles with The Roundup: Punishment marking its latest addition pairing Lee with director Heo Myung-haeng, which bowed at the 74th Berlinale. Eiji Uchida (Night Flower, Offbeat Cops) is directing the newest flick from a script he wrote with Tatsuro Mishima (City Hunter, “Yu Yu Hakusho”), and Lee himself is producing alongside Hidetomo Sugaya and Daisuke “DAIS” Miyachi.
Tokyo Burst follows a rookie detective assigned to Shinjuku Central Police Station, and tackling the seedy underbelly of Kabukicho nightlife. Efforts to remake Kang Yoon-sung’s inaugural flick reportedly began in 2020 which eventually flourished into its current form, which you can now check out a glimpse of in the player below:
