UNDERWORLD: NEXT GENERATION Is Now Filming In Prague

Well, it took about three years but production is finally underway in Prague for Anna Foerster’s new installment of the Underworld franchise. Underworld: Next Generation is the name of the film with Kate Beckinsale and Theo James set to reprise their old roles from a franchise centered on stories of warring vampires and werewolves, and the politics therin among both sides.

Lara Pulver, Clementine Nicholson and Bradley Davis round out the current cast while later details await to materialize following the film’s announcement back in May. Suffice it to say if you’ve been waiting for Beckinsale to break out the artillery once more, your wish has come true. Check out the full announcement courtesy of Film New Europe:

PRAGUE: The 5th part of the popular vampire saga Underworld started shooting in Prague on 6 October 2015. The film stars British actors Kate Beckinsale and Theo James.

Underworld: Next Generation is a production of the L.A.-based Lakeshore Entertainment through its European branch, Lakeshore International located in Prague. This is the first film shot in the Czech Republic since the launch of the branch three years ago. The Czech partner and line producer is the Barrandov-based company Stillking Films, which recently worked for Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011) and Child 44 (2015).

“Previous Underworld films were filmed in Germany, UK, Hungary, USA and New Zealand. I am glad Lakeshore International chose Czech Republic for its latest instalment. It is the biggest project this year with the expected spend of over EUR 28 million. Czech State Cinematography Fund allocated over EUR 4 million for this film from its incentive programme. I believe other big projects will follow, also thanks to the planned changes of the incentive scheme which will make the system even friendlier and more flexible for film productions,” said Ludmila Claussová, the head of the Czech Film Commission.

Anna Foerster, known mostly for TV series such as Criminal Minds and Outlander, is directing. Cory Goodman wrote the script. Richard Wright, Lakeshore’s Executive Vice President, is the head of production.
